An explanation of coming events for our new salonistas:
We generally start a new thread every thousand or 1500 posts or so, depending on real life obligations. Way back in the dawn of Hootoo, there were no LEDs or blocks of 20 posts; threads were monolithic and quickly turned to webjello, so the change might happen in a hundred posts or so! Later, when the 20-posts-per-page layout was introduced, we collectively decided to keep a changeover, lest our threads become too daunting to newcomers.
Each new thread begins with a traditional welcome to casual passers-by and then a recapitulation of what was discussed in the previous conversation. Prizes may be awarded ap the caprice of the hostess.
A foot-race then takes place. The first researcher to arrive at the new conversation receives a FTTF (First to the Forum) mug from our maidbot, Matina, along with a t-shirt. In dead heats she has also been known to bring out a AFTTF mug, and evinced disappointment when the first post is a calling card.
Conversation then resumes.

So, why do the newcomers now get a training post? I never got one! LOL.
Raining cats and dogs here.

Not till tomorrow, at this rate. I'm posting in between doing tasks on the other machine. I do have tartaronne's notes, but haven't had a chance to work up the intro for the new thread. A client is coming soon and then I have to go to Ruidoso and consign 3 framed prints to UPS, pick up a check and a matted picture of Billy from the framer (for whom I just finished some photo restorations), and go from there to the Hurd gallery, drop off some work and pick up the latest assignment.
Which is probably more than you needed to know.

Awww, one of the few times I'm around for the start of a thread, and it's pausing.....!

Aw. But I'm online now.
This is where all of that time travelling that I'm doing with CHOPPERS will come in handy, I bet. I just need to figure out what the URL of the next conversation WILL be, and make the second posting there now, so that when the first post is made I'll be able to already be there with no effort expended on my part.
If that makes any sense.

It's really a matter of luck Penny Whistle. There have been numerous times I have gotten the AFTTF because I was 2 minutes late in posting.

I posted this in another Atelier thread, but I don't think the Israeli-Palestinian peace process can truly move forward until there are new players on both sides. Sharon has too much baggage as well. When I was in college I sympathized with the Palestinians. Then I allowed my anger over 9/11 to color my feelings about all Muslims and I was on the side of Israel. Now I think both have a lot to answer for. The situation won't be resolved until each has their own secure soverign nation. But what territory should Isreal cede? Until there is new leadership on both sides, I don't think any division of territory will make people happy.

Right. I'll take off the running-shoes and stand down then.

Luck. I don't have much luck.

I won't pretend to be an expert in everything involved in the death of Mr. Arafat. I'd comment, but I barely know what's happening in other parts of my country, much less across oceans.
It does seem a shame that he died, though. I've heard interesting things about him.
