Hypatia:
Wish there was more I could do for you. I’ll keep F and you in prayer, believing you’ll see the best resolution to these trying times. God bless you real good.
Teuchter:
Glad you found the heirloom ring. Bet that takes a big load off your mind.
ltp:
[naw i,m of the opinion its a strange fetish to do with water.
cleaning indeed, polishing kitchen tables with friction from clothes, that sort of cleaning i like.]
When my wife and I clean the kitchen table, there are usually not enough clothes to wipe up a spill…
Woof! I’m starting to feel like the Rodney Dangerfield [God bless him] of the Atelier.
GDZ:
Re: The DATE. Alright, Dude! Take a breather. Relax. Reflect. Smile. …and, BTW, you coulda been a bit more detailed, but I think I understand your reservedness on the topic at present.
redpeckham:
Welcome to the fold! We’re glad you’re hear to in-crease our numbers. It’s also good to know that humour is a staple for you. Be sure to take a spin-dle around the whole Atelier to take in the sights. Oh, and don’t sweat that the convo thread seems a bit fast-paste; it’ll seem like you’re part of the gang in no time as we develop our social ties to one another.

Ooh, metaphores... lovely stuff. I used to be quite good at those. I also used to be the only girl in class who reliably knew the difference between an a metaphore and a simile. Or who could spell either - those were the days. It came of being brought up in Italy, where I was forced to parse sentences every week at the age of seven. When I started school in England I had such a flying start in grammar I did better in English than anyone else despite never having been formally taught it. I do think reading a lot and NOT being taught how to spell out a phonics hand-book are rather good for one.
And then I grew up and my brain melted. I blame the .

*waves to red - wilkommen, bienvenue and all that stuff
*raises to Ben's Dad
I'm off up to the attic to dig out my old notes on dental nerve supply and head & neck blood supply/drainage for a colleague at work who has to teach this next week.
On Thursday, I'm off up to Embra* for a conference. Feeling rather hedonistic, having booked myself a massage at the hotel spa. Can't really afford it but feel I deserve it after this year to date and, goddarnit - I'm worth it.
*Edinburgh, for any non-Weegies amongst us

Embra - - is a nice place indeed
Sorry I forgot to cheer Ben's Dad - actually now I plan to do so IRL (just the perfect excuse I needed to dive into a nice Bombay & Tonic

Agapanthus, it's not a ~bad~ thing to simulpost with you. As a matter of fact, I rather enjoyed it.
Enjoy your bawth and relaxing time.
Ooh-ooh! I meant to tell y'all how the move-in is progressing at our new digs on the west side of town. My daughter, B----, had wanted to decorate her room to her own tastes, so we gave her the go-ahead on some paint. It's now done up with charcoal black walls accented by powderpuff pink trim on the baseboards, flashing, wall outlet covers, and the doors.
We put the finishing touches on it last Sunday when a friend and I laid new carpet in the room. The old carpet was a mauve short pile affair that had gotten moldy and wound up spattered with paint, so it had to be replaced. The first order of business for the project, though, was to vacuum all the detritus of about 30 years "living in" from atop and under the cushion pad, and around the corners. Then we started in earnest.
Mind you, it's the first time I'd ever done this sort of thing. Rented a 'knee kicker' to stretch the carpet from the tack boards as we went, to take the 'slack' out of the carpet. Plop, grab, kick, stretch, push. Plop, grab, kick, stretch, push. We tucked all the remainders under the baseboards and--when it came to the door frames--trimmed close to the juncture with a razor knife. The closet needed a foot-and-a-half extra material to complete, so we duct-taped an extra swatch to the main portion, laid in with the rest, then tucked and trimmed it together with the whole thing. The crowning touch was the door jamb, cutting it back a little at a time until I had just enough to tuck and catch on the metal flashing at the lip of the entrance.
I was out in the garage [piled high with all the boxed-up portions of our life we aren't currently using] looking for some wood screws to mount a wired-in lamp in the closet under the stairs, when our daughter came home. I missed her initial reaction, but A---- related to me that she was ecstatic and actually ~rolled on the floor in delight~ to feel the results!
She thanked me profusely and was very appreciative of our efforts on her behalf. {sigh} My, my, how this girl is changing as she grows up.
We still aren't on-line at home, so I'm still depending on our break / study time to keep up with the convo. This coming Thing [Thursday], I intend to sort out the computer room, starting with hanging the fan / light fixture while there's light enough to see by during the day. Then I can work into the evening hours, if necessary, to finish all the detail work of organizing the room.
Despite the age of the structure, this place is in a wonderful location. It sits right up against a small lake taken care of by the HomeOwners' Association, and there are about 15-20 houses along it's edge. The community is verged round-about by enough of a treeline that you don't hear the traffic from the nearby county road. We've already met a handful of the neighbors and we're fitting right in. I'm looking forward to fishing out of flat-bottomed jonboat next Spring and Summer, as well as a multitude of barbecues hosted on our back decks. I'll try to capture its rustic charm in some photos and drop them off with azahar to post on her Friends of Hootoo webpage. I'm sure I can convince the whole family to hold still for a pose or two...

How fabulous!
Thanks for raising a glass of the bombay and tonic, Santra, and indeed Teuchter. I do hope, in the true spirit of my father, it is so strong you wonder if the tonic is flat, and that you have at least two additional ones to keep the first one company.
Nothing else new to report except that I found some I had forgotten in my handbag!
Even better than finding a fiver!

Sore, Lil. Yet not as sore as the palms of my hands, from using a chisel to push the edges of the carpet under the baseboards. Umf, this is uncomfortable! Will have A---- massage my hands this evening...again. She does wonders for me.
