Cadfael, Poirot and Miss Marple but we've also been getting West Wing from Amazon's DVD rental. Great fillers in when there's nowt on t'box and you can't be botenhred to put Radio 4 on. On the second lap with Cadfael.

Botenhred was of course a Cadfael character who had the annoying habit, geddit, of appearing as Bothered, his younger brother.

Well, I sort of got out of Anime a while back. So the embarrassment comes from the fact that I still have it and the number that I have.
Akira, Martian Succesor Nadesico, Evangelion, Escaflowne, Full Metal Panic, Comic Party, Ah! My Goddess, Noir, Gunsmith Cats, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Ranma 1/2, FLCL, and many others.

I would love to get the Cadfael set, but as it is so outrageously expensive, I'm contenting myself with getting it from Netflix.

Currently finishing D's costume. Sally from Nghtmare Before Christmas. And listening to the soundtrack. While dressed as Pippi Longstocking, mind. My campus has a dearth of Halloween spirit.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

It's really tempting to get fully zombied up tonight (including the frankly disgusting clothes I wore for crewing a zombie themed LARP last year) and scare any kids that come round, but we're having people over so I'll have to pass.

I loved the Cadfael books - but wasn't as enamoured of the tv series. Derek Jacobi just doesn't match my idea of what Cadfael looks like.

*thinks - we've had this discussion before haven't we?

The only tv series on video in this house is Life on Mars, though I have been considering the Rome series.

I'd love to see some of the MASH reruns.
Has anyone read any of the books? I read one of them yonks ago but could never find any more. It was about Hawkeye Pearce and his father and was based in the US. Can't remember if it was supposed to be before or after the Korean stuff - but I remember enjoying the read.

I actually have quite a few TV series on DVD. I started buying them with all the money I saved not having satellite or cable. smiley - biggrin I have all of Inspector Morse, which will be no surprise to anyone here. And all of the Midsomer Murders that are available in the US. There are a lot of those that we can't get yet. I have The Last Detective. Poor old Dangerous. And Mod is a hoot. The newest season of that one isn't available in the US yet, either. And Murder in Suburbia, which is also funny. I have Clatterford, which is the American name for Jam and Jerusalem. Little Britain. Rebus. Prime Suspect. McCallum. I know I'm forgetting something. I had some others that I donated to the library because I didn't like them as much and was out of shelf space. I can check them out if I want to watch them again.

T, I've never read a MASH book. Loved the movie and the TV series, though.

The actor they have playing Rebus, Ken Stott, is good in the part and pretty much how I imagined the character smiley - ok

Does anyone else find that film/tv adaptations of books are rarely as good as the printed word and the pictures in one's own head?

Just had my leaving presentation before I moev up the corridor to my new job. And my boss a fellow Livingston Football Fan presented me with a current season's home strip. I'd been holding off on getting one until I saw how much money they raised fro me. Too much to present the bottle of Whiskey (Bushmills) it turned out but hey much appreciated.

TV DVDs: Big Train, Doctor Who, Early Doors, Family Guy, Little Britain, Spaced. Only Big Train and Spaced are the full run.

Going out last night was a good idea, because I ended up with a free book by and from Paul Cornell who was answering questions about his work and his faith.

I think Ken Stott is a much better Rebus than John Hannah. I do like Hannah as McCallum.

I seldom like a film adaptation as much as the book. The beauty of books is that when you read them, you combine the written word with your own imagination. smiley - magic It's a more personal experience than watching a film. It must be difficult for the authors when the adaptations change the characters and plots.

Have any of you read the novels by Elizabeth Taylor? (Not the actress, for those of you who haven't.) Anyway, I like her books so made it a point to see "Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont" when it was filmed. I was blown away with the adaptation. I actually think it is better than the book and that the changes made improved the story instead of the other way around.

I'll take that anime off your hands Marv.

Lentilla (Keeper of Non-Sequiturs)

I've been watching the new Battlestar Galactica series as Blockbuster puts it on their shelves. Unfortunately, they seem to have stopped at season 2.5, so we're in limbo now. I don't really want to own it, because usually once I've seen a TV show I don't need to see it again.

On books and films... If there's a film and I haven't read the book yet, I'll want to see the film first. If at all. If I've read the book and then seen the movie, it's ruined for me. Very rarely do they get that right.

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

[lil] having a warmer day at the visitors' center. Nearly froze my backside off at the Tunstall store, which has no effective heating. They gave me an electric radiator, which radiated straight up to the rafters. Useless.

West Wing seems so impossibly idealistic, now, compared to the reality of what's sitting there at the moment.

I guess it depends on the adaption. I thought the recent version of Pride and Prejudice was dreadful, but the original 1939 version, even with the deviations, is still one of my favorite films (i.e., one that I will stay up past my bedtime to watch!). And the version with Colin Firth ain't half bad.

I think there's something to be said, however, for the book, in the sense that the book allows you to decide who *you* see in the roles. For instance, if I was going to cast, say, Neuromancer, I would put Gary Oldman in it. Others might see it differently.

They do say that the pictures are always better on the radio. I guess by that token not only are the pictures better in a book but the voices the characters use are as well.
