DD, the role as the governator is beneath you. A squalid little B movie, really. You've so much more talent than that!

Someone please explain to me how the Atelier is nepotism? According to everything I know, nepotism is giving relatives preferential treatment in employment...

Ahywho, the STBX promised to take the kid to the bus stop and let me sleep in. Guess what? Didn't work. Damn.

Hello to all who I did meet at the meet smiley - smiley Lovely to meet Z, Sol and Egon for the first time.
Egon, you're tall! Most people say I'm tall but even I feel short (doesn't happen very often for me smiley - winkeye).
There was a toast to absent friends (if this has been covered before I've only read about 100 or so posts of the backlog) and I thought of all you who were not there.
smiley - erm I'm sure I should have said something else about the backlog but I've forgotten all about it.

Oetzi, your continual disregard for the form of these threads is unforgivable. It has been pointed out time and time again that yes, h2g2 is a community site and is for everyone. However, on each researcher's personal page, or any page that they produce, while property of the bbc, that researcher can decide the netiquette. In a lot of the threads on this site, that may mean simply being polite, not breaking with thread etiquette (threadiquette – i.e. if the researchers are all exploring a dungeon on the planet Zorg you DO NOT suddenly come in saying “Hallo pips! Cup o’ Tea?”).

If you find that you do not care for this thread’s particular etiquette you can leave. We should not have to. Bringing up lack of typing skills, disabilities and illnesses has no baring to simple politeness and what you are doing is simply not polite. You are harassing us all here by continuously disregarding the netiquette practiced here. See the house rules at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/HouseRules :

Unlawful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, racially offensive, or otherwise objectionable material is not acceptable.

What do you call someone who won’t leave you alone or remains continuously abrasive after what generally has boiled down to pleading from other researchers? That’s harassment to me and if you don’t conform to this thread’s rules I will write up a letter to the italics personally and pass it around for those that would want to add to it.

This is not a personal agenda Oetzi. It is merely a matter of civility, of which you lack.

Now, as for the rest of the backlog:

Spaceballs on the worst film list? Surely you kid! To each their own… smiley - winkeye

I have a copy of the original Little Shop of Horrors on VHS if anyone wants it.

Terry Gilliam marathon for me:

12 Monkey, Time Bandits, Fisher King

Two Carrie Fisher marathons, one good and one bad. I’ll leave you to decide which is which:

Scream 3, Drop Dead Fred, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Charlie’s Angels: SoapDish

Postcards from the Edge, The Burbs, Austin Powers, Hannah and Her Sisters

Over here in the UK we use THE OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY as the standard reference authority on the English language and usage. The unabridged version should give you a full account. My usage referred to off line interaction between researchers and BBC staff about on line comment. Nepotism in this context refers to a non professional relationship which is not transparent and hence unaccountable. Viz OED.

General comment

Has anyone in the UK noticed how inaccurate the weather forecasts are?
I use the BBC radio forecasts. Seems to me they can't forecast because they are about to be persued, either by a corporation or a line manager. If I go to a CBC website I get a perfect forecast. Crazy world!

I think they're all mixed up there, Sporky!

And thank you for that post. I was going to say pretty much the same thing, but much less eloquently. Now, all I need to add is this, and frankly, at this point, netiquette be damned:

Oetzi, as polite as I have tried to be, as everyone has tried to be, you keep asserting your rights as a license fee payer. Listen up, buddy. We have rights too, and our right to be left free from harrassment supercedes whatever rights you think you have from paying a fee to the BBC. That said, feel free to continue ranting and raving and carrying on about how horrible we all are because we insist on such elitist things as readable posts and some semblance of an thought. Be aware, however, that as long as you persist in this behavior, you will be ignored by the vast number of people on this thread.

And now I wash my hands of you. *poof*

Hi DD. smiley - biggrin Nice to see you again. If you do embark on another film, let me know, will you? smiley - winkeye I think the "Doughnuts are not Enough" was one of the most fun things I ever did on h2g2. I can still remember one evening when Volk (played by me) was up in his sawmill and Bond (played by you) was hot on his trail and catching up. We were both online at the same time and I had 2 windows open - one for the sawmill thread, one for the Bond thread - and I kept having to refresh them every couple of minutes to see if you had posted. The intensity increased as Bond got closer to the sawmill and finally broke through. IRL it was almost quitting time for me at work and I kept wanting to get in one more post before having to run to catch my bus. Needless to say, I missed my bus that night. smiley - biggrin

So I've been working on an idea for several years and wanted to run it by the Atelier and see what the Salonistas think.

The idea is on what I call the VCR generation.

I've been struck by how much more inconsiderate people are becoming in movie theaters, talking, answering phones, etc. and have been trying to understand where this lack of courtesy has spawned from.

My idea is that as home electronics have increased, our society has gotten used to watching films in our homes, where getting up, talking, and other things don't have an impact. As more people go to less entertainment oustide the home, the old moors of listening and watching quietly are going away.

I was at a classical guitar concert about a year ago and was completely embarrassed when, after the intermission, the artist told people that by covering their mouths they would lessen the noise they were causing. I wasn't one of the offending individuals, but how bad has it gotten when the artist must admonish the crowd?

I'll be interested in what you have to say.

DD smiley - biggrin !!

I like your classic Bond character; suave, debonair; however, the Bond personality would be an interesting polititian, as well. Remember your poisoning incident with Redbeard at the F&F in the h2g2 Presidential race? A bit of Bond in your character makeup would have seen that coming smiley - winkeye
