I am pround to say that I have not seen one single episode of this years Pop Idol, and I tend to spend Saturday Evenings tha I spend alone with the media listening to things I've missed on Radio 4. (Elist - moi)
Actually one of the girls who got down to the last ten was due to start on our degree course as a first year this September, but she deffered for a year because of Pop idol. Next years musical should be good.
I think she was the blonde one Suzanne?

I like a bit of cultural diversity myself, Z, and I'm fascinated by the phenomenon of tv shows that invite the public not just to vote but to *pay* to vote and get away with it. I liked Suzanne. She is articulate and has has an individual style. She could easily be a pop star _and_ someone that people want to listen to because she's really got something to say. Of the two remaining candidates, my money's on Michelle because she has a belter of a voice and she interviews well. The lad is probably picking up the teenage girl vote but he's very bland.
Having said all that, I won't actually be watching Pop Idol because there are two history documentaries on Channel 4. I'll check on progress during commercial breaks .

Is that good news or bad Marv? A day off sounds good but does that mean you won't get paid?

How much does it cost to vote on the pop idol thing? That's a pretty good racket. There was something years back in the US where you telephoned in a number to vote for something and it cost 50 cents - but I'm danged if I can remember what it was now. It had to do with politics I think.

Getting paid to not work would be great! I'd be rich!

Well, that's it, No2 son has moved out. They moved all their stuff over today and were going to move in on Monday when their bed is delivered, needless to say they were too excited to wait. I'm keeping my chin up, but will have a little when no one is around. It was the same when No1 son went to Uni I felt a bit low the first few days but soon got over it. You have to let go.

Caer.
I don't have a TV licence.
I enquired with the TV licensing company and established that I can own a TV for watching videos on and not pay for a licence as long as I do not actually use it to watch TV programmes on. So I have no TV ariel connected and the station channels are detuned. I have been doing this for about 3-4 years now and am very satisfied with the situation.
The only TV I see is the occasional programme taped by someone else or once in a while at other people's homes. I much prefer it this way. I borrow videos from the library fairly often and watch them instead.

On the subject of tidyness (lack of) I'm starting to feel the need to tidy up, I'd better hire a skip
As for pop idol and all the others of the same ilk. I haven't watched any of them, I might have seen the odd snip when flicking through the channels.
yesterday we had our works christmas dinner so I got home suitably tonight some friends are holding a party so I suspect a similar result.
At this rate my liver will be demanding a holiday.

Ooh thanks for reminding me Amy I'd forgotten about that Seven Ages of Britan programme, - it's very good so far. I don't watch TV much myself and could happily do without it, but I sort of feel obliged to have a license because I listen to BBC radio and spend so much time on BBCi. Contributing give me that nice warm fluffy feeling. Actually talking of BBC I have beening considering getting the Freeview digital channels, does anyone else have them?

Styx! Where *have you been!
I can actually walk 5 steps today without crutches. That's an accomplishment.
Hypatia, one of my mom's really good friends has a husband who had a fairly large heart attack a few years back, and he really played it for all it was worth. She was doing everything for him, and taking care of him day and night. Finally, one day he said he wanted a sandwich, and she said get it yourself and apparently it devolved into a shouting match, at which point, she told him that anyone able to shout that loud can't be dying, and needs to get off his @ss and do things for himself.
Not that I'm suggesting you engage your other half in a screaming match, but what came out of it was that after 30+ years of being in construction and feeling very at home in his body, he felt betrayed and frightened and fragile. He didn't want to do things because he was afraid to find out that he *couldn't* do them.
Male egos are such fragile things...like soap bubbles, really.
