A job he was exceptionally ill suited to

Boots, I am indeed and Army brat, or was.
HM Forces is also represented here by eatsmice and Peripatetic Warrior Monk (PWM), both of whom are presumed engaged in active service at the moment.

Just in to work, but have no ambition. I have not yet even taken off my sunglasses. As I said earlier, last night was fantastic. I got to see a very good friend for the first time in a year. He is freshly home from his deployment to Korea where he was dodging bullets on teh DMZ for a time.
More later, can't really think all that well today.

*Passes to d'E for Zeppo* Keep it frozen. It's doggy ice cream sandwiches made with dog biscuits.
I guess you all won't have any trouble guessing where I stand on kids' clothing. My current peeve is that all the back to school ads show girls with slightly cropped shirts and low rise jeans. The schools around here have dress codes prohibiting that. What a set up to make Mom the bad guy for back to school shopping.
Good luck with the Billy presentation, Lil.
*Off to take the age test.*

89 if I exercise, 85 if I don't. I'll have to give that some consideration.

Well I never did! Boots and I went to the same school, the one that Amy nearly went to.
What a small it is.

Can I just take a seat and a bowl of hot soapy water for the "back to school shopping" feet.
Contact lenses. Moonlight started wearing them at 12 and took to them from day 1 without any problems at all. I really wish I'd got them for her earlier, although she is, and always has been, very mature for her age and had no problem with the hygiene issues.
My other daughter, Sunshine, (like your daughter MR) has only 1 weak eye and I've always been told this is probably due to the fact that she was a forceps delivery and slightly turned during delivery so one of the forceps was over her eye. She's worn glasses from age 4 but went over to lenses last year. In fact, just 1 lens for the bad eye and it has to be specially made to fit as she has a strange shape eyeball. Add to that the fact that her eye needs a different strength horizontally and vertically, so they have to weight the lens slightly to sit in her eye the right way round. Also she was slightly allergic to one of the plactics they make lenses out of, so she needs a particular kind. As long as she doesn't wear it for too long, she's fine.

Maybe it's worth remembering that as teenage girls tend to take more care of their personal hygiene in general they are likely to take more care of contact lenses than teenage boys. I'd be aware of letting your sterotypical teenage boy get contact lenses or if they do at least make sure that they do care for them.
When I was 20 I was told I could never wear contact lenses again, partly because of the lack of care I took of them as a teenager. Fortunatly the scar on my sclera (the white be around the) has resolved so I can wear them again.

That is freaky, Caer. Although I wouldn't have got there until 1970 so I would have missed boots and you would have been one of the 'big girls.' Fortunately my parents weren't insistent on that occasion.

I cannot abide sticking things into my perfectly imperfect eyes. I don't mind wearing eyeglasses, and I can't even put eyedrops in my eyes by myself. It drives me wild to have things sticking in my eyes.

I have exactly the same problem, Marv. I'm supposed to squirt ointment into my eyes every night but it's soooo hard. *shudders*

My parents wanted me to take a scholarship exam but I wanted to stay with my friends. And three hours a day on buses and trains didn't appeal either.

Boots, the opthalmic optician I go to see is really good, here in Guildford. Let me know if you want the number.
Cassie is going to drive me barmy. We have been having heavy showers, the minute it starts to rain she starts scabbling at the door to be let in, then shakes the rain off just like a over me! As soon as it stops she is meeuuwing to go out again. What is so irritating is that her flap is open, but she prefers to to have me go to the door to let her in!
