Bad news travels fast. If you bare that in mind, you shouldn't worry too much. If something bad had happened, you would probably know it by now.

I'm getting bored with typing "Atled" at the end of all my posts, and i've seen people using smileys as sigs, so i thought i might try that. What do you think of the smiley as a sig?

this is an informal place- a signature isn't necessary at all, though we do sometimes leave a calling card with a signature, to let others know that you were here (also a handy bookmark utility). they look like the following:

Marv,
You're just jealous because the voice don't talk to you.
But seriously, I know what you mean. Sometimes it seams like people make a big deal out of nothing just because they don't have anything better to do.
I have a theory about disproportionate response. I think we all need a certain range of emotions in our lives. It's natural. But sometimes, if everything is just pretty average for too long, a small thing (good or bad) will get blown way out of proportion so we can experience a greater range of emotions.
This seems to be the only way I can explain the behavior of several people I know.

*Runs around frantically, tearing at his hair, jumping up and down and screaming something incomprehensible but with the word "backlog" popping up every now and then. Finally calms down and sits down.*
Um, was that a little out of proportion?

Playing the card. I knew that modified Monopoly set would come in handy
What a day here. The weather did go KABOOM this morning (about 8:20ish) and fried the internal modem. Thankfully I've got one so we're now back online. When at my folks getting the modem, I find out they'd been burgled this morning Thank
very, very little was taken. I think the burgler was disturbed by my dad. They're both unhurt but very shaken.

Oh, and frontlog is the stuff that is being produced while you are trying to catch up on the backlog. You see, I posted before reading the billion or so led's of backlog and now I need to keep up with what gets posted after that post, as well as trying to catch up with what was before it. Hence, backlog and frontlog. I just caught up with 7 led's of frontlog and no backlog.

Oh but the voices do talk to me. They say things like "Take that case" or "Are you listening?" or It's time for your performance review". Those are not the words of a real person, but they sure sound like my mangler. I have learned that you should never listen to those voices that you hear, because the result is always dangerous.
Nah, really it is just the fact that the people I ork with are either stupid, nuts, criminally insane or more and more frequently all of the above. This used to be the coolest job. Then in marches manglement. I think that someone in the company saw real smiles on three people at the same time and decided that they could not allow that. As a result we have the micromangled hell that I call a job today.
What? Me bitter? Never!

That's why I like my job. My bosses are awesome, and I really do prefer to be left to my own devices.
Well, I do deal with drunks sometimes, but that's what you get for working in a bar.

I know what you mean. At my last job, my boss tried to micromanage but he didn't even know how to do what I do. I had to keep explaining things to him so he would realize why you don't do it that way.
On top of that, he was one of those who can never admit they don't know something. So he would try and use the industry jargon but it would be all screwed up and make no sense.
At my new job, my boss isn't even in the same building. I see her about once a week and she trusts me to do my job. It's a much nicer feeling.

dna, your brother can tell you about my work. We drink beer, we play pool, we hang out and watch hockey...oh, yeah, and the beer's cheap, too.

Ah, ha! Well now that I've made your acquaintance, I'll have to make a point of attending the next stress reduction seminar.

the consumer all too rarely wins. When they think they have won, they usually find out that they got teh shaft later, rather than sooner.
Good lunch today. Met a friend at Sizzler (a steak house) and I got the malibu chicken. I could live off of that stuff.

Hi GL. Nice to have you back.
What a day! We need a smiley of someone collapsed in a chair. Tell me, are people everywhere out of their minds or is it just here?
It doesn't matter how many times you tell people something, they never seem to get it. Then they always stand there and argue with you about it. My circ clerk came and got me to talk to a lady who refused to pay her fine. She said she shouldn't have to pay a fine on her overdue books because she came by the day they were due at 8:30 and we weren't open. I told her that we always open at 10:00. Well, when did you start doing that? You used to always open at 8:00. No, I told her, we've never opened at 8. Yes you did! No, we've never opened earlier than 10:00.Besides, you could have put the books in the book drop? I didn't know you had one. It's that big metal thing out there at the curb. When did you get that? You've never had that before! We've had it for 85 years. No you haven't. I'm not going to pay. Then you're going to have your card revoked and lose library priviledges. No I'm not. You can't just change the hours any time you like and get away with it. I'm not going to pay. Then I'm not going to check these books out for you.
You know how much the fine was that she was arguing about? 60 cents!
