There is Dial-A-Ride in this area, Z, and one of the first 'kneeling' bus sevices started in the area I worked in, which is 8 miles from Guilford.
There are also bus services through outlying villages directly to the supermarket near me. This is as much a social occasion as anything else, as the Senior Citizens pile off the minibus into the store and stop and chat about 6'! I try and avoid mid morning and mid afternoon as that's when the buses arrive. Of course one day I fully intend to be one of them getting in the way of everyone else
We are reasonably well set up here for the elderly, but giving up your car is like handing over your life as far as Dad is concerned. He would have to move away from the house that he and Mum bought afer he left the Army and he has refused to do that as the house reminds him of her. Ironically, if he had gone first, Mum would have sold up like a shot and moved to the countryside, her preference was for Petersfield or Haslemere, for those who know the area.

It lowers itself so that there isn't such a high step up from the kerb, Ben.:

*comes in looking tired*
They've closed Highway 70 so they can replace the bridge over the Ruidoso. Closed at 1 am, won't open till 10. And the traffic has been treating the road through town as its superhighway all night.
I wonder where Mac has got to?

Hi, i've been lurking around this site for a while, and have only just got around to creating this account (i lost the old one somewhere... never used it though...) and starting to do stuff. This seems like a popular place, so i thought i would come and say hi here.
Do you talk about anything in particular, or is it random?

Hi Atled. Nice to meet you.
Two lurkers out of the ether in one week.
We talk about a little bit of everything around here.

Or with there presents! *Looks hopeful*
Hi Alted. One of the things I like about this thread is the way subjects get picked up out of real lives, aired for a bit, and then moved on from.
Btw - I was thinking of knocking the storm-stories up into an entry for the Alternative Writing Workshop, but I wanted to ask permission of those involved first. The stories themselves would be quoted as-is from the threads, with some attendant commentary, rather like the 'First Kiss, Last Kiss' entry; and I would co-credit the writers, but not say who wrote what.
What d'ya reckon?

Works for me Ben. I would, however, like to rewrite a bit about desert storms and indeed find a poem that I have authored about the same.

Hello new people!
In summation: I agree senior citizens and those who find themselves in accidents more often than than the rest of us, what sort of camel was it? and the storm collection sounds neat. I have a story about a monster hailstorm, if you want to add it--
In September of 2000, I drove from Missoula to Logan, Utah (about 500 miles) to visit a friend. Just outside of Dubois, Idaho hail the size of golf balls started pounding down from the skies. Everyone on the interstate freeway, including semi trucks, had to stop right where they were, because the hail was so thick you couldn't see where you were going and the road was covered a foot deep with slush. I thought the roof of my car would cave in from the pressure of the hits (and it was so incredibly loud and scary!). I still have divots all over my roof and my hood from the hail hitting my car.

Last night was a bit quiet at my house so I decided to watch a movie on television called Crush. Has anyone here ever watched it? It is about an older woman and a younger man, the woman being played by Andie MacDowel (who I'm a sucker for). Very sappy but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have just come to the rather unhealthy-ish realisation that I own nearly ever movie she's been in, save for 3!

Hello Atled . The more the merrier!
I had some emails and stuff to do so rummaged through my mp3s to listen to. I do wish RealPlayer and MicroS*ft wouldn't compete with each other. I have got a napster library too, so have been making up new playlists and have been around on my seat whilst typing. Doesn't do much for the typos, but I must have burnt off some calories
I'm on tenterhooks waiting to hear whether H has phoned the dealership to thrash out a deal for a new car. The salesman phoned me earlier to say again that they would match jamjar.com, but H wanted a word first.

I have decided that I work with psychotic people.
Not that this is a bad thing, it does offer the odd moment for entertainment, but on occaision I wish I had the ability to avoid the drama that goes along with it.

I got a text from my flatmate this morning, confirming that he was alive, but for some reason he hasn't come late back from work, and his phone's switched off, or the batttery's dead.
None of this is stopping me worrying.
Key: Complain about this post
