I don't think I'll ever get the mug either Amy. You and I, it looks like we're in it for the long run.

Me too, guys. Either I start the new conversations and am ineligible to compete or else I'm not around on those rare other occasions. And of course there will probably never be another 4242 mug.
Well Phil, that is fantastic news! We all knew you would be employed eventually, but I know it was getting to you. When do you start? What are your duties?
Hey Garius! Here's a Backlog Exemption coupon good for 25 LEDs. I had just mentioned your name and here you are.
Oh, and well done with the intro, Marv.
All these reasons to celebrate -- we've already been to the beach, so why don't we have a hot tub party?

Too damned hot for a hot tub party. Can we have a cold tub party instead?! Or a running-through-the-sprinkler party?
Congrats Phil! Excellent news!

Hi, everyone ! Glad to hear Frank is on the mend Hypatia.
Congrats on the new job, Phil.
As for USA Today, it is one of the largest circulation American papers. It is a little shallow, but this is partly because it tries to give equal coverage to the whole country more than the New York Times or Wall Street Journal. The articles aren't very deep, but it had good human interest articles and pictures of the Iraq war. The Times and the Journal are both more New York centered. The Times is more leftwing and is the paper people outside the US are most likely to encounter. The Wall Street Journal is more of a business paper, and caters more to Big Business conservatives.
Good intro to the new thread, Marv. Since I had a hard time sleeping last night, am going to attempt a nap. Will post again, later

Not sure when I'll start. When I asked, the head of the department said yesterday! I'm up for that, just got to wait for due process to be done. One of the guys I put as a referee has said he got the letter this morning, read into that what you will
I'll be working as the technician in charge of the web servers in the department, this means trying to coral the academics and students (including project students who want to try and break everything) as much as possible. Currently it's only till the end of the year as the last post holder has been seconded across the university till then - they secondment may turn out to be a permenant move, if that's decided then I keep the job, otherwise...
did my best not to in the room when shaking hands today after being told

H and No2 son w*rk in the same company, they are now talking w*rktalk, so I think it is time for bed.
My task tomorrow is to see if I can find cheaper deals for the car I'm after online.
This evening is the hottest yet, it is still 24ºC at 23.00.

I agree great news Phil have just had a plesent evening with LighthousegirlUK, of Lighthousebar fame, who it turns out lives only a few seconds from me. I am having real problems with the heat. Our flat is very very hot at the moment, so I am just unable to concentrate until it gets dark, and even then if I go outside on the flat roof over the shop, (I won't call it a balcony) which is quite annoying as I do have exams in a few weeks and I ourght to be revising. I'm going to have to take the train into the univerisyt and study there...
There's a job I want in the outer hebridies for when I grow up, it's looking to be a really really good option!

MR, that's a great idea--we should also have an Atelier Slip'n'Slide party. You're never too old to flop around on your belly on a wet plastic runner. Or use a squirt gun, for that matter.

Well done Phil! Working again is good...countdown to holiday pay is always good! Congratulations!
Thanks for the welcome folks...crazy saloon but love it here.
So so pleased Frank is on the mend H...you know how much I truly mean that (huge envy but so happy for you smiley).
Spent an evening with young peeps tonight. Dear God did my daughter really get up to all of that?
Apparantly at some point in her dubious adolescence she was grounded for six months (I can't believe the time scale... oh you cruel mother) for smoking strange substances in the sitting room. It appears the crime was not in the substance but in the territory...the burn mark on the carpet being more offensive than the offence.
Time to re-assess priorities methinks.
take care

Hello all.
I had to say something after Lil honored me with a reference in the recap. Now we’ll see how long it takes Courtesy to notice.

My bad. Thanks Marv.
I almost posted after somebody looked under a cushion for me. That was pretty funny. But life got in the way of fun once again.
