I wake up with coffee, though it's the shower that is more essential to my well-being. I figure I'm allowed a cup of coffee in the morning, as then I drink water all day, before having a cup of tea or two in the evening. Which is quite likely to be green tea, too, so I can't tell you how much better I feel drinking plenty of water. I used to wake up tired and continue tired. Really bone-draggingly mind-numbingly sluggish, but since I replaced the caffine I drank with water, now I am much more alert. Shame I don't much like the stuff.

Morning. I have been awake since yesterday and am too hot to sleep.

Who needs caffeine to wake up? May I recommend 2 teenage daughters, some socks of indeterminate ownership and a locked bathroom door.

*shoves soaked in the washing machine*
Or two men crashing around being 'quiet' at 6.30 am. But I do get a in bed on weekday mornings.
Cassie has gone off outside again. I can see two ears sticking up from the long grass, that's left for the bluebells, on the green opposite. Every so often she leaps in the air trying to catch an insect.
Off to the gym again in a mo. I'm beginning to get a bit disspirited about it though. In spite of keeping my calorie intake down to 1500, twice weekly gym visits and weekly Pilates, I'm not losing any weight but I know that if I cut calories any further I will start to cheat.

I've always found that the absolute *best* way for me to wake up is the dog...that cold wet nose in the ear works every time.
Although my daughter's taken to putting a wet finger in my ear, which is not as cute, since I *know* she understands me when I say "don't DO that!"

Lil there is something magical about new flowers and green stuff - I was quite taken aback on my return to this green and pleasant land how much I'd missed fields and trees and flowers - having said that I am considering relaying our lawn to astroturf as the current organic covering appears to be in the middle of an indecently efficient growth spurt, demanding a good crop very 5 days

Sons are the same. All methods of doing this carry a significant risk of serious injury to one or more of the participants.

You're right, Hati. A big problem. I was referring to the normal working week type of arguments I have to listen to first thing. During the weekends and school holiday they don't tend to bother with mornings. Or getting dressed.
I'm hoping for a rare sighting first thing tomorrow though. I have mentioned the magic word: "Shopping"

Hati Posted May 30, 2003
Then again there are younger kids who don't care much about weekends and holidays and wake you up in weird am hours to ask if there is anything good on tv or in the fridge.

Cor! go out for a day and evening and you talk your way through 3 leds. Talkative bunch aren't you.
I think I'm feeling ok after spending the eveneing at a local beer festival. Quite a few half were consumed and some real cider as well. Top notch stuff even if getting up was made a bit harder.
6:30 this morning I was awake and not feeling too bad, probably due to the drink I had last night. Now I know that when I try and wake up at about 4am tomorrow there will be total cloud cover and I'll be dead asleep when I want to see what I can of the partial eclipse of the sun (nice as it would be to go to the north of scotland for anularity it's a bit impractical as I've got to go to a wedding later in the day).
Later all

'Shopping' doesn't work on the sons, in fact quite the opposite occurs, duvet pulled over heads and some seriously rude words are uttered. Or at least I think they are words, hard to tell.
However No1 son's bedroom faces due east, so he gets the full dawn effect and on sunny mornings is up at 6.30, turns the server and boxes on, gets Cassie meuuuwing for her kibble then goes back to his room and types exceedingly noisily to all his cyber-friends.
No2 son's girlie usually manages to get him out of bed by phoning him at 8.00 am.
Just back from the gym, I do wish we did proper air con here, with the blast of icy air you get in any other country, except Italy where they seem to have the same idea of climate control. There are only two spots in the gym where there is the occasional draught of cooler air and I come out of there feeling as if I have been exercising in a sauna!

The council gym I've been using up to now has a large fan next to the treadmills. There's always a bit of a rush for the treadmill at that end of the row.
I'm not expecting the new gym to be much better. With gyms I suspect it's a case of 'if I can afford it, it won't have air conditioning'.

dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC Posted May 30, 2003
Thankfully, Zeppo lets me sleep. But he has turned out to be an excellent tool for waking up my teenage niece. You just say "go find Chloe" and he does. In response she has taken to barricading her door.

Two cats do the trick for me. As soon as dawn brings about avian activity they are all twitchy, jumping off the bed to look out a window then jumping back on with b-r-r-r-r-rt noises.
Into my magic shoes this morning to tromp around La Bosquita then walk up to the post office. The magic is in the orthotic insert that were put in my shoes yesterday in Alamogordo. Last night they felt go-o-od!

Irv, you asked where h2g2's greatest hits was, and I told you the front page, just as it came off that place. Here's the page number -- A956478. Question: How to you cite a page as a link without constraining the link to a skin?

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted May 30, 2003
If you're posting on h2g2 the parser ignores the skin so you can put anything you like. If you're posting an h2g2 link from somewhere else, say Yahoo, you just delete the skin part e.g., http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F38024?thread=281289&latest=1 I'm finally getting around to doing my car boot sale. I've been sorting out old jewellery. It's the CD collection next. I've got such a busy weekend planned. Where did all this RL come from all of a sudden?

I hate this AOL browser! It's the only way I can connect when I'm home for the summer, though.
Thanks all for the advice on the woman issue. I'm not sure believing that it simply "slipped her mind" will help, seeing as I'm kind of tired of being something she can just forget. Oh well. Can't call the camp, and WON'T call her parents. I don't think they approve of me (they're LDS, I'm not).
Advise for those of you with multiple children, some of whom are teenage: Get a child who is not yet in adolescence to go and wake those who are. That way you don't have to bear the brunt of the violence, the little tyke gets a kick out of annoying an older sibling, and the old one has to wake up. It's a win-win-wake situation.
