I couldn't get beyond my morning funk, so I got out the graph paper and planned another flower bed. Works every time. This one will be for annuals that are suitable for cutting and/or drying. I'm going to put it where my strawberry bed is now. I'm going to dig up all the strawberry plants and hope someone shoots me if I ever try to raise them again. Way too much work! And they're cheaper to buy at the farmer's market than they are to raise. I'm keeping my raspberries and blackberries. They're pretty pricey to buy...at least around here.

I want flower beds!
I moved from a house to an apartment, and I only have so much railing space for flowers...boohoo!
Went to a lunch and a movie with "one of the guys" today and found out that the problem seems to be that I can, in fact, give as good as I get, and that I don't try to flaunt the body part they look at most. So basically, what it boils down to is that they know I'm not one of the guys, but that I intimidate all of them so badly that they aren't sure what to do with me, since a one-night stand is out, and all of them are pretty much out for that.
Which, honestly, isn't something on my agenda.
On a related note, the movie was Two Towers. I was a bit disappointed, although there were scenes that kicked butt.

I went to the movies yesterday with my kids. We didn't have a cinema here for couple years so we missed a lot. Now we have a movie theatre - they rebuilt the small stage of our theatre to make it suitable to show movies too.
We went to see Ice Age which is something experimental for us. See, they dubbed it using our best actors and it was really cool. So far we only used subtitles but for kids it is definately not the best solution. They still show it in English with subtitles too but the dubbed one seems to be ten times more popular.
Anyway, it was quite funny thing to see and all the kids were at the end.

Ice Age is a film.
A day of sunny intervals, H and I went for a walk along the towpath by the river. It is still very high and the water was thundering over the weirs. The girly ducks and geese were getting thoroughly fed up with the boy ducks and geese who all seemed to be full of the joys of spring . The swans sailed serenely along as if that sort of things is totally beneath them, we shall see in a few months time.
Meanwhile, the buds are swelling on the trees and shrubs, except for the sensible oaks who always wait until they are really sure spring is here.

A lovely day here too - I took my friend K back to the airport - she is working on the same project as I was working on last autumn, and it was great to catch up with her and with all the gossip.
I envy you your river-side walks, Caerwynn - my Private Life will be visiting in a few weeks, and I am planning to walk his feet off so all he then wants to do is lie down! Mind you - that could beckfire on me if we then just go to sleep I suppose!
The best position to be looking for work is definitely from your whatever your current position is - so go for it Marv - and as Lil and MR have said - move from SLC! If it happens before the summer, GTB and I may get to meet you, which would be
MR - that situation of 'not being able to categorize you' is an interesting and irritating one. I have had that a couple of times too, but I tend to assume that anything which confuses other people gives me a slight advantage - they are already confused, and I can jump any-which-way I like, and it won't surprise them, just confuse them more. I also never mind being underestimated, again whoever underestimates me has just given away so much power. I am *not* a political animal - I am crap at office-political-chess, but I am good at interpersonal stuff. Mind you - there are situations when people maneuver you into having to be petty, and I hate those.
How do you *want* them to react to you? So long as someone respects my ability to do my work, I don't really care about the rest, but I am curious to know how you want them to react.

Will one of you with sunshine please send some my way? We need weather smileys.
I'm not that great at politics, either. But I'm having to learn in a hurry. Right now we have a councilman who wants to dump the library building project and spend the money on curbs and gutters. And two of my board resigned in the last 10 days and another one never comes and a fourth has her term expire in May. So, I'm going to have 4 new board members at once. New board members all have one thing in common. They know absolutely nothing about how we do things or why, but they always want to change everything.

Hi dave - and welcome. I don't think I ever said 'Hi' to Sdiver either, I had been out of the Aetelier for a while, and missed that you were new. So 'Hi and welcome'.

Does the word 'resume' include an application letter? I once wrote one where I thought I had exaggerated a lot, and showed it to a male colleague (I was applying for another position in the same company) - and he thought it looked just fine! In general I'd say men are better than women at 'marketing' their qualifications - but on the other hand I once heard a person who makes a lot of interviews saying that if a man says he's good at something, you have to follow up with a lot of specific, detailed questions, because he might not be as good as he'd like you to think - while if a woman says that she's not half-bad at something, then she's probably an expert, but you'll have to use the follow-up questions to find out!

Hi Dave.
Ti, there are so many ways to do resumes that it's hard to say that one form is right and another wrong. The last time I advertised a position, I got many more resumes without cover letters than I did with them. I certainly gave more attention to the ones with the cover letters. And the resumes that were geared to the position I was offering were also given more consideration. Lots of people print up resumes in bulk and then stick them in an envelope and mail them out to everyone they can think of. I guess it's the old mud on the wall theory. But it doesn't cut it when there's a tight job market. It helps to take more time and present yopurself for an individual position.
