I feel cheated! We didn't get 'demonstrations' of condoms or tampons. How dull.

Belive me, David, you aren't missing anything.
The social worker called today about my grandma- I guess she's improved a lot. However, it's pretty clear she can't live on her own anymore. I think we'll be looking into long-term care facilities.

It will take your grandma a while to adjust whatever happens Z
Have just got back from the vet - Ed looks very sorry for herself and *really* hates having a lampshade on her head Am sure she'll perk up.

i was given 'the talk' when i was 12 - and it was all old hat by then. it was just a world of embarassment.
and at school our sex ed class was called health - about as graphic as it got was the teacher holding up a packaged condom. no videos (especially not-disney videos), no carrots or bananas, no tampons. and of course, no questions actually asked in the q&a time.
the only bit i remember about any sex ed in school, that sticks out, is a girl named christina briant asked in our 8th grade biology class asked if you could get pregnant via oral sex. there were quite a few snickers amongst us all, mostly because we all knew (and she would openly admit to such) that she slept around quite a bit - in fact she was caught in school once and suspeneded for 3 days - and so it was rather silly that someone who was having sex didn't know a bit about the practicality of it all. which, of course, is the whole problem isn't it? you always hear stories of people getting pregnant or getting an STD and thinking to yourself 'well, they should have known' but really, some people are just oblivious.

i will never forget that biology teacher, mrs. jansen, if for nothing else her feisty southern speech and the following phrase: 'glycerol's an alcohol'

No sex education at all in the schools I attended. And no talk from my mother. Of course, both were unnecessary as I had Lady C to fill me in on stuff like that. Can't imagine how the devil she found out.

Sex education aged about 12 at the convent: 'Marry a Catholic', end of message.
I went to an all girl secondary school so there it wasn't so bad - no boys to be shy around and we had a really sweet biology teacher (quite young) that we kept asking ruder and ruder questions until she went red and went out of class to get the older, sterner, head of biology.
PSE with the condoms and carrots came a couple fo years after that...
I've never seen a not-disney video, although when we had that free all-channel ondigital service, one or two of the late night channels showed some interesting athletics events

I've never been a fan of Wrestling, but the Wrestling culture is interesting to look at once in a while. It gave us songs like "Grandma Vs. The Crusher" if nothing else.
Football is something that I'm a closet fan of. I don't like sitting through an entire game of it, but it's fun to see it when exciting stuff happens. The only problem is that you *have* to sit through it for that stuff to *be* exciting when it happens, otherwise it just looks like more of the same. This Superbowl is the first one that I've actually "watched", and even then I spent some notable amount of time playing on an X-Box in a back room that someone provided for the evening.

Lady C. reads a lot! Plus Mother left a little booklet with my comic books entitled "Now You Are Twelve". She had a tendency to stick her head in the sand........
And don't forget, Hyp, I had cousin Phil to tell me the finer points.

Rainbow's Tears Posted Feb 7, 2006
Once when I was 18 and took a boyfriend home for the weekend, we sent my Father off to hire the video of 'Tess', but he instead came back with a porn video called 'Fringe Benefits'. My Mothwer and I didn't watch it as I we were once again irritated at my Father's inability to carry out the simplest instructions. Boyfriend didn't watch it as he was quite simply too embarrassed. However, my Father watched it twice - to get his money's worth!!
I knew my Father was having sex until well into his sixties - just not with my Mother !!

My parents gave me a book called "Where Did I Come From?" when I was 6, rather than have the talk. It, and the kissing sessions with next-door neighbor boy Shawn, answered all my questions.
That roast chicken sounded divine, Lentilla. I must try it for myself. I've never successfully roasted a chicken. Either it has been overdone or underdone or just plain .
As for not-oregano and not-Disney, if my mother asked to borrow either I would simultaneously die of embarrassment and be pleased she actually has *needs*.

More (have I told this before??) - I had a friend in high school quite experienced in not-oregano. She and her mother went to Thailand and Mom decided to try a Magic Mushroom Omelette.
In the evening, my friend asked: Any effects? Mom went to the bathroom, came back and calmly said "I think so. The bathroom mat is still breathing"

Amy, this link looks like it would be useful for folks other than librarians too. Going to look into it further.
