Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Aug 30, 2002
I just watched a BBC documentary on what must be one of the most famous paintings in the world - "The Scream" by Edvard Munch
I never liked that painting in the first place, but the documentary made me think about why - and I realized it makes me feel uncomfortable
There were some school children who painted their own pictures, inspired by "The Scream", so I tried to imagine what picture I would paint - and realized it would be a person sitting down on the floor, knees drawn up, head bent and hands covering face, trying to hide from something

Heya all.
I got back yesterday evening from a short visit to Ming Mang's house. (She used to visit the Atelier, if you remember, but left as it was too much to read.)
I discovered that her dad made wine. Apple, I think. I didn't try any as I was warned that it tasted not altogether unlike paint remover.
I like the photos, Lil, though I dare not think of a caption.

Why does "The Scream" make you uncomfortable, T? I mean other than the eerie skull-like head of the screamer, and the swirls of color in the background, and the general hopeless feeling of the painting as a whole?
You know, I keep telling MR to quit referring to her husband as the "small person". It's not very nice.

I just got my graphics tablet and Mac OS X 10.2 with the handwriting recognition, but I've been banished from the computer by my niece who is on the neopets web site. Now I'm stuck on the stinky old laptop.
If I post more incomprehensible gibberish than usual over the next few days, it just me trying to get the hang of writing on a graphics tablet instead of typing.

Those inflatables were in the documentary too, Lil - and key rings, and towels and pillows and...
...one of the people that were interviewed was a bit sad about the figure being taken out of its context - seeing the figure without the background just doesn't give you the same eerie impression

{[caer csd] Just got back from travel agents, we went to see if we could arrange to pick up our hire car from Logan airport on the morning we leave Boston. But it looks like its too much hassle.
Alamo's only depot is at the airport, the hotel doesn't operate an airport shuttle and if we get a taxi we will still get stuck in the rush hour traffic. Also Alamo won't deliver the car to the hotel.
I know that as landing time approaches H will start to get wound up at arriving in a new city, driving on the right, driving an automatic and all the different road signs. Mind you he would get even more wound up at the thought of me driving to the hotel! Anyone know of an online site for US road signs?}

Talk to Alamo again, Caer. It is easiest to catch a boat from the airport to the city. It's dead easy to get back to the airport that way too. The route from Logan to the city is not easy but the route from Logan out of the city and to the north is dead simple. I would try to pick up the car from the airport when you need it.

{[caer csd] thanks for the links, Lil and d'E, I've added them to my holiday links folder for H to take a look at.
We shall try getting in touch with Alamo and see if they will deliver the car to the hotel, I know H will feel a lot more relax if he hasn't got to step off a flight and start driving.
Amy, the ferry sounds a nice idea, but our hotel is further out of town than we thought, does the ferry come in close to a subway station?
Meanwhile, been busy in the gaden again, speading more bark chippings. The local cats have been enjoying the path we've created at the end which will evetually lead to a composter, but they all think its so as they can get across the back without getting wet paws.}
