Wow... that sounds very nice indeed! You wouldn't happen to have a recipe would you?
(I'm going through a cooking phase at the moment, experimenting with dough quite a lot. )

No way am I typically British! I use some old English, certainly, but I don't take much notice of my nationality.
But I lived in Switzerland for nine years, so naturally acquired some of the language. I'm sure I mentioned it...

Here's the closest thing I could find to our family's Küchen, Prof!

I'd like to point your attention to the fact that, unbelieveably, someone created a skit about the dessert to present to the South Dakota State Legislature. That's how serious we Germans take our Küchen.

I had an ex-boyfriend tell me once that French was just a lot of spitting. Then he said German was a much more romantic language. Notice the use of the word "ex" in the above!!!!
I certainly hope T wasn't offended, as I meant no disrespect. In fact, I rather *like* Swedish. Is it Finnish that they speak in Jutland? I'm a little hazy on northern European languages and geography. We had an exchange student from Kerteminde, Jutland, Denmark, and I could never figure out why the word for "nurse" was so long. I kept thinking there had to be a shorter word for someone so critical to keeping people alive...Morten the exchange student once cracked that people had been known to die trying to call for a nurse!
Gads, I haven't thought about him in years!

Jutland is part of Denmark. (I think it is an island. That is where I get hazy).
Ok, MR - are you sitting comfortably?
I assume you can find the UK on your mental map of Europe?
If you look at the UK there is something which should really be edited out of maps-for-children dangling over it to the right. That is the Nordic Peninsular, and eventually it joins on to Russia.
On the left hand half of the peninsular is Norway. The right hand half is Sweden. The bit sticking out from mainland (ok the bit where the gonads would be) with a long Russian boarder is Finnland.
Now, (and this is where I want the guys to close their eyes), the bit of mainland Europe which is poking up at the eye of the one eyed trouser snake is Denmark. The part of Europe which is immediately south of Denmark is Germany.
It could be worse guys... You could live in Wales, which looks like a pigs-head.

I assure you - no offence taken (can't figure out why?)!
As for hazy - I'm a bit hazy myself anyway about whether I'm a Finn or a Swede most of the time...

still recovering from a 3-hour-long meeting of the Historic Lincoln Preservation Board (i.e., zoning committee) wherein a representative of the police department discussed the possible re-rowting (sic) of truck traffic through the middle of Lincoln during the 4-laning of Rowt (sic) 70. The town has a long history of vigilantism and residents will take their own measures if police do not enforce speed limits...

A traffic lynching? Hang'em high, Lil! Sorry, I'm feeling a little jelloish.
Caer, Julia Childs is a TV chef who regularly appears on our Public Broadcasting System and is credited with introducing the American Housewife to French cuisine, thus liberating us from tuna casserole with peas, and meatloaf, and anything made with a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup. Eric Idle did a wonderful impression of her that really formed the basis for the Swedish Chef.

Whoever said taking time off was easy?
I am exhausted with all the cleaning, and painting, and shopping, and tidying, and sorting, and storing, and re-arranging, and washing, and vacuuming, and disinfecting, and hootooing I have been doing.
My ex might 'pop round' with his new g/f this weekend, and I want the flat to be as fabulous as it can be, given that the walls are a patchwork of arctic blue, lilac white, ivory chalk and pagoda, and that the hallway is full of the crap I am taking to the tip and the charity shop and, indeed, returning to my ex.
This is more nerve-wracking than meeting his parents was. At least I didn't need to prove I was making a go of rebuilding my life. And I was 47 pounds lighter and 19 years younger then.
Anyway, time for bed, I think.

Ben, I understand completely where you're coming from! It's sort of "look at my life and how cool is it that I didn't NEED YOU?!", isn't it.
I've discovered something new about myself. I used to surround myself with clutter and crap. You know what? I don't need to anymore. My side of the bed is almost bare, with a little table, a minimalist lamp, a candle, and a basket containing crystals. My other half, on the other hand, has crap all over, and it is threatening to overflow. Just "stuff". I think maybe collecting
"stuff" is a way to fill empty spots in your spirit. Or then again, maybe I'm just blowing smoke.

MR you are absolutely right about stuff. I am getting rid of boxes and boxes and boxes of it at the moment. I am nowhere near your elegant and minimalist level. But every box of stuff taken to the charity store or the tip is like a full body de-tox.
Ruskin said 'you should never have anything in your house which you do not know to be useful or consider to be beautiful' and I try to abide by that.
To be honest, I still have a massive amount to get rid of. But slowly, slowly, slowly...
