*Waves to PWM* The pollen is high, the temperature is up, the sun is occasionally out and apparently the Heroes of Democracy were out impressing the Queen this morning in Portsmouth. No big changes to report, the place is still green and pleasent and the trains are still doolally.

Well, I agree, Caer, really. And in the interests of pure self-indulgence am now taxing my brain about Hair.

Skara Brae is on Orkney and is a whole Stone Age village. Its all built down below ground level, possibly to keep the wind out, and is one of the most complete in Europe. Its just not easy to get to

{[caer csd] waved No1 son off to Glastonbury tonight, hoping the weather holds:

can't find a webcam for it.
Where's Newgrange? Would love to visit Skara Brae. Have been to the one in Cornwall, completely forgotten what it's called }

Thanks for the Skara Brae links! I remembered that it was mentioned in Schama's 'History of Britain' series, and am sitting looking at the book, as well as having been to the sites. It looks great.
I haven't played Risk - is it a card game, or a board game? I'm not exactly the consummate game player: I keep forgetting how to play poker.

Glastonbury, never been, always wanted to but just a little bit self concious of having to mime and not knowing the words unless by a complete and bizarre trick of time find that teh Zep have got back together (and reincarnated!) Munch, the water of life is guaranteed to cure hayfever its just a question of finding which particular distillery does the trick - happy researching! Caer, good to hear yr typing, all well in Serrey? Is Amy out there? Lil dont you worry, we'll find you, I know just the bunch of cassock wearing chaps to make things right at a time like this! Ah 6X, cant wait! Just off for a little bit of light pool tomfoolery with 2 small blokes who just dont know who they are messing with!

Newgrange, along with fellow passage tombs Knowth and Dowth (I'm looking in a book ) is in the Boyne Valley in County Meath, north of Co. Dublin.
Interestingly, my book ('Reading the Irish Landscape', Frank Mitchell, Michael Ryan) shows an axhehead which is supposed to indicate contact with the 'rich passage tomb culture of the Orkneys'. Dating from around 3200 BC, Newgrange would be roughly contemporary with Skara Brae.

Risk is enjoyable, however I have found that my friends and I needed to modify the rules to keep from having massive waves of conquest towards the higher level risks.
When you play, have you tried taking and holding Europe or Asia?

{[caer csd] PWM, all is well here, nearly had a head on with a 4x4 and white van man deep in the Surrey Hills TTGs for ABS and handy ditches. I love single track roads .
There has been a high pollen count here for ever it seems and for the first time I've got hay fever
Didn't Time Team poke about a bit at Skara Brae?
I wonder how MR's move is going.}

Ah Risk As Eddie Izzard says, and I have proved on a number of occasions, it is impossible to hold Asia. Mind I prefer Diplomacy, less dice and more backstabbing. I never win though.
I did find a site while googling for Skara Brae which claims that it was founded by some Egyptians that got lost.
I won't be here next week (Oi, not so much cheering ) as I am off down the Kennet and Avon Canal in a narrow boat for the week. With any luck we will get to Devizes in Wiltshire, the home of PWMs 6X.

Never played Risk...
I'm thinking of keeping the current adding to my user name for a while - I seem to be extremely touchy right now - especially about Moderation - maybe because there are no Flamenco dancing classes during summer, meaning I have no safety valve to let off steam...
