Abolish the monarchy! (But let me keep my title - I like being Queen of the Swirley-eyed Ant Monkeys and I don't get a cent for it!)

Good monday all. I am at work for the first day since my surgery. No back work to do and a long week ahead.

Good morning Marv, and I glad that your knees are cooperating enough to allow you back to work.

Courtesy, I am working more out of bordom than anything else. As I ride a desk I can do my job without too much trouble, but I could have taken another week off i am sure.

I understand the boredom angle. Several years ago I was laid off with a 6 month severance package. One month later I was so bored that I started to look for a job. I just couldn't sit around and do nothing.
Not sure what that means when it's time to retire.

Anyone got any good ideas for repelling grey squirrels?
We have one who is determined to break into the roof of our block of flats, it's already chewed a hole in the gutter and is part way through the woodwork

Yellow Labrador Retrievers are very effective squirrel repellants. However they are more effective on the ground than on the roof.
Marv, it's good to hear you're doing well. Is the pain mostly gone now? I would have taken the time off - the boredom is merely an adjustment. After a couple of more days you would have been filling your time with fun stuff, and then it would have been time to go back to work.

d'E, there is still pain, a lot of it in fact, but the contrast to last week is stunning. I was feeling cooped up at my parents house and I am in teh middle of a move personally, so staying in one place would be torture. I either have all my conforts, or I am in a place with people that drive me crazy. I also cannot get my insurance comapny to play ball, so I need to make sure I have income.

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Jul 1, 2002
Boredom can drive you to do the most amazing things, like (in my case) wathing every single soap opera on TV (I don't usually watch them) and even taking up cross-stitching (no, I'm not the needle-working type of person), and reading every single book and magazine, twice... after 4 weeks with a plastered leg, mostly rested on the top of a chair to keep it from swelling, I was ready to climb the walls...
...what a relief when they changed to a new plaster, one that I could walk on - I went straight back to work!

Granted, I was assuming that one could move about. I think I would be horribly bored by a 4-week confinement.
Marv, you just reminded me I have to dig out my homeowner's insurance policy to see if it covers digital cameras. I had an unfortunate accident over the weekend.

From somewhere under the greeting card table there is the sound of the most irritating imaginable cell phone ringing. It seems to answer itsself, and it prints a card...

BB, I've had pretty good success with steel wool in the opening they have already created. (Not quite as nice, but effective at my house-wasp and hornet spray.)
d'E, your homeowners should cover it if you have replacement cost rider. If they balk, just keep hounding them and talk about "errors and omissions' rider. That's your insurance persons insurance against mistakes. i.e.-you understood that cameras and stuff were covered, at the very least there is some amount in the policy; just remains to be seen if it exceeds your deductable. and it really doesn't matter if "the dog ate your homework", it was an accident and not an intentional act on your part.
"Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong."
