Well, it seems that the March Meetup in Denver is coming along nicely. Any of you UKian and European salonistas are also invited should you be able to make it to Denver in just over one week. I, for one, can hardly wait.

Hati, I'm waiting for one here in Missoula. Or better yet, in Irvine!!!
Hey, all you computer whizzes. I bought the upgrade for XP, but when I installed it, it didn't recognize my modem. I have a Rockwell, which, of course, is no longer in the business of making modems. XP tries to read it as a Compaq modem, on port 3, when it's really on port 1. My question thus becomes is there anything I can do to make XP recognize my modem, so that I can have both XP and a working connection? Is it possible to install a new modem (the thing is WAY past any sort of warranty....)? Or am I just stuck with a corrupt version of ME that grows shakier by the day?!

Red you can try to find the driver by looking for a LTwinmodem (this is a guess, but it is a common rockwell chipset) You can easily replace the modem with a new on eif it is a Compaq of a certain model line that I think it is... Been a long time since I saw you machine. Try letting winblows set up the modem and then see if you can tweak the settings. I wish I could tell you hwo to do this in XP, but I have not played with it enough to tell you. windrivers.com might have the driver for you. If it is a Compaq modem then you might (might I tell you) be able to find the driver from Compaq. Let me know the model of the unit and I will look to see if I can find anything. This can be fairly hard to find however. Compaq make a lot of machines that look the same but are completely different under the bonnett.

Red, there is a chance albeit a small one, that you can find the driver here http://www.vee90.net/chipsets_cnx_rok4.html . not sure that it will have it and if XP does not recognize it then there may be nothing you can do save for replacign it with a new modem.

Why is nothing MS do ever straight forward? Funnily enough ever since I've threatened this PC with XP, ME has behaved itself!
Just having another browse of my Dell mailings, then off to bed still reading the medieval whodunnit.
Oh dear, Lil, you are still suffering, plenty of steam inhalations for you! I used to have a cat who would try to get under the towel over the steaming bowl with me, she loved the smell of Vick!
