A Conversation for Why Eomando?
Why on Earth not?

I keep meaning to buy a printer, and I keep forgetting.
My old printer don't like to print at all. It likes to smudge.

An inkjet then. We had a few problems with one ourselves.

J'au-æmne Posted Jan 29, 2000
Inkjets, in fact all printers are bad things. I try to never print out anything ever.

J'au-æmne Posted Jan 29, 2000
At the beginning of the year I had 200 printer credits (free). I still have 177. I only use them for printing stuff to hand in.

Dancing Ermine Posted Jan 29, 2000
Me too but we still have to pay for every sheet, and more for the first one, or colour, or acetate.

J'au-æmne Posted Jan 29, 2000
I've not met any colour ITS printers yet. I imagine there must be, though.

I've a feeling that by the time I get around to a dissertation or major project work, I will have to buy a computeer and printer myself. It would be cheaper than printing out a couple of copies of the assignment.

J'au-æmne Posted Jan 29, 2000
How much do they charge you? Ours are 5p per sheet in the event that your credits run out.

Hmmm... *scowls violently* Some people take things a little too far...

Dancing Ermine Posted Jan 30, 2000
8p for the first sheet and 7p for each following one in the library.
There is a printer in the management labs for free but I can't figure out how to access my work.

J'au-æmne Posted Jan 30, 2000
In the event that I'm organised and go to the physics department, I have to use a floppy disk... for some reason they aren't networked yet apparently have internet access
8p is expensive, though. They must make a profit, given that people need hardcopies for their assignments etc.

That could be a problem.

Dancing Ermine Posted Jan 30, 2000
I can get in but can't access the programs such as word so I can't even do any work, let alone print it out.
Why on Earth not?
Dancing Ermine Posted Jan 30, 2000
I'll just have to figure it out at some stage this semester.
Why on Earth not?
J'au-æmne Posted Jan 30, 2000
And theres the 'semester' word again. Is Durham the only place to have an Epiphany term?

No, but I think it's very rare to find one...

I think there are a few places still, but semesters mean we only have to sit two seets of exams all year for our modules
