I probably should have tried something like that. As you may have gathered I've had a little trouble coming up with a nickname, but R97644 is about to disappear in the next week anyway.

Hello again! I've only just found your posting here. If I hadn't of been having a last check around before I logged off I wouldn't have seen you.
I found that if you try hard enough, and just keep pulling the scrabble tiles out of the bag you can name just about anything!
We should have a little competition thing for the best names, shouldn't we?
Who knows, someone may pull out the Ultimate Question one day...
Well, I'm shattered so I'm going off to sleep now...

Eomando is undoubtely a good name, but what would you have done if your name turned out as fgxhsdfsdg?
R97664, followed you here too

I'd have pretended that it never happened and kept on pulling out the tiles until I got something with a vowel in it. Then I'd consider it, mull it over, sleep on it (not the scrabble tiles of course because they'd be quite hard) - ah, sleep, that wonderous thing - and if I didn't like it, I'd start all over again.
Hey, I never said it would work 1st time all the time!

Possibly I shouldn't have put the idea into your head, Joanna.
Its more inmpressive if you can pull out a real word that scores lots of points in a game.
I never was any good at picking letters (doesn't stop me getting high scores though) so I'd probably end up picking all the vowels first and then all the consonants.

I don't know why, but when I play Scrabble, there are only two possibilities. Either the 7 letters I draw are "B D R T M D S" or "E I O E U E A". What is the conclusion?
1. If I wanted to name something in Eomando's/Vicki's way, I'd probably end up trying for days.
2. I like the idea nevertheless. I support Vicki's suggestion to make a contest for the best word. But don't cheat!
3. I wonder if that Golgafrincham ship didn't mess up the giant computer we're living on, causing it to compute the question to be the letters I keep drawing... Or was the crash even part of the program? Who knows... Deep thought, perhaps.

At least you get high scoring consonants. I once got an eight letter word and scored 60 points. Including the 50 point bonus.
Most of the time I struggle to get five letter words out.

OK, I'll dig out my ancient scrabble board that's been around since the beginning of time and see what else I can pull out of it. It may take me a while because I'll have to go up into the attic, and that means getting some ladders, wobbling a few times, almost falling, getting up there, realising there isn't a light up there and that I've left my torch downstairs, going back up, finding the scrabble board, sneezing because of the dust and coming back down again...
So, I'll tell you what I pull out either later tonight, or tomorrow-ish.
Anyone want to join in?

Do you mean the "Beware of the Leopard"? Quotation from Douglas Adams, "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy", about going down to the basement with no light and no stairs and finding the plans on display in a locked closet with a sign saying "BOTL"... Vicky said something about going to attics with no light...
But you should know that as a researcher
But yes, we DO know each other, though not in person

I haven't read the books in years and they are currently packed away somewhere in cardboard boxes in my parents house. So I missed it.

You haven't read the books in years??? I can't imagine such a thing, as I read all five of the trilogy every 6 months or so, along with the Dirk Gently books... I think this is just the best fiction out there sorry for not considering your not remembering the source of the quotation... and for the many gerunds as well

Being a uni student I am supposed to be concentrating on more relevant texts to my course. My books were falling apart through overuse though.
I read a wide range of fantasy and comdey books with the occasional classic or airport novel thrown in. It used to take me about 18 months to read through all of them at 2 or 3 a week. More during the summer. My record was The Lord of the Rings in four days and 8 books in fourteen. I was on holiday. The bookcase got kind of full so I lost track of the HhGG books.
But all that reading means I'm good at word games

I'm part of the way through rereading So Long & Thanks For All the Fish.
I just bought all of them after I logged on here.
It does help, reading them again
