I couldn't get past that Maitre d' bot, wasn't there something you had to pick up off the table behind him? I got so desperate that I went to look for a cheat or spoiler and that didn't work either. Ooooh I got so cross!

All I can recall is that along with having gotten some other item of inventory first, I had to be very persistent with that bot. I think I had to pick a fight with him.
