I'm still not convinced it is animal, as there is nothing I can think of that could produce a sound out of doors for so long, with it's inherent modulations, unless it is a swarm of something.
Which leans me towards insects.

Indeed, Shagbark.
In future ask yourself "I wonder if he's already thought of this" - then I probably already have.
It's not often I get my klaxon list waaay of target. After I've finished with writing the question and thinking through the clues I'll sit and I'll try to answer my own question myself put myself in your shoes - whatever I think is a plausible leap I write down as a klaxon. Didgeridoo was obvious, Nepalese Goat Horns wasn't.

Shame bees are out. Could equate to "Perfection lay within", which makes me think of a mass of insects like a hive. But it just sounds too mechanical or contrived!

another thing in Australia is Ayres Rock.
I remember in another QI I kept trying things from the bible and he said nope nothing biblical.
this time I say someting in Australia
and he responds what's in Australia.

That was referring to shagbark and my .

Well this forum is moving so quickly I'm not surprised we're having a few .
