Gee, thanks Irv. I'll have a Kona, black, with my m==.
So, are there actually trees in northern Arizona? And do people cut them down? I'm an east coast girl that thinks Arizona is all desert.
Bye SW. ~waves~

(stumbling through the door)
Hi!!
I know I'm brand new here, but can I please please please have an iced vanilla latte with a double shot of espresso?
And I think there are a few trees in Northern Arizona (like 3)

See, what had happened was, there used to be scads and hordes and great roaming -packs- of trees in Northern Arizona -- but bold and stalwart Lumberjacks like lrv here cut 'em all down -- making the area safe for the desert-loving populace. All in the public service...

Oh, and hi, StPletch. You might want to try one of Asteroid Lil's mbougatses, with your drink -- it's a splendid, flaky sort of pastry she does occasionally.

Well, actually, if you want to get all technical, even in midlle and southern Arizona there are trees -- they're called Palo Verde, they're short, and green (the bark is green, the leaves are green) and have needles in adition to leaves. We've also got misquite down here, which is very good for adding flavor to things you are barbequeing.
As you go north, you get to high desert, and then -- suprise suprise -- PINE TREES! Yes, Flagstaff, where NAU is located, is chock full of PINE TREES. There's also skiing there. Both Cross Country and Downhill. If you ever come to Arizona on vacation, you should visit the Grand Canyon (one of the 7 wonders of the world) and see all the trees around there. It's really very green on the rims of the Grand Canyon. Oh, sure, you're not going to see many oak trees, or maple trees, or that sort of thing except where they've been planted by humans and are irrigated and cared for regularly. But we've got forrests, and forrest fires, and deforestation, and everything like that up north. And you should see some of the trees down by the Riparean Areas in southern Arizona (a Riparean Area is part of a desert where a river or stream runs through, where you get trees and animals who need more water than your average desert critter).
Also: the Sonoran Desert (where I live) is NOT sandy. It looks NOTHING like the Sahara. It's got dirt, and all sorts of plants, most of which are covered in prickly little thorns.
Okay, I'm done ranting on the environment of Arizona. And now I have to go to class.

*the door opens and the stranger enters, still in trenchcoat, dark glasses and beard. The beard looks exceptionally good today and is firmly stuck on. Goes over to IIEM and orders coffee. Notices hole in roof, but doesn't comment. Nods to other patrons. Sits down at table in the corner. Sips coffee*

Good day, er, Smith, isn't it? Have a pastry, do.
*stands, rubbing temples slightly*
And now, good people, l must take my leave. Splitting headache, so l have, though it's been terribly pleasant.
*peers through roof*
Hope they fix that soon...

So I see. I have been appraised of the situation. And also of other things. Hope the earache clears quickly. I hated it as a child myself.

Redbeard (Thanks to all who supported The Celery!)) Posted Jul 19, 2000
Hello all.
Congratulations on being a lumberjack, Irv. You _are_ OK!
Can I get a Redbeard's Brew, please?
BTW, Irv has announced it here first, I see. The Aroma Café will be featured in the Post NEXT WEEK, so everyone make sure you pick up your copy late Monday or on Tuesday and read all about it. You'll just have to wait till the next issue.
We actually started talking about the statue, Irv, as a result of our looking through the history of the place, and it's nice to see that Venus has become much more visible to people. She's really quite stunning.
In case you folks hadn't figured it out by now, I have accepted a position as Roving Reporter for the Post. I'll be doing weekly features around the community so watch for it. The Post is also looking for some help in promoting the paper and is starting to put newspaper boxes around the community (there's one on my home page). It would particularly be great if places that were featured in the post added one by their front door (hint, hint, Irv )
