Exactly. Somat sailed a bit close to the wind with that one, and I don't think she realises yet that part of the art is in this team effort to maintain continuity. I'm not personally keen on the idea that we are now liable to flooding from a nearby fountain, but Somat did not supply her own solution across several posts, so we had to step in. I had a fever at the time, so I condensed the action a bit hastily.

I know a couple of researchers I could call in to do some construction work on a storm drain, though. I'll do that later.

Now I was guilty of the same kind of behaviour right here at the cafe when, on impulse, I suddenly said how nice the view was from the top of Irv's new space needle. It wasn't in my place to make a substantive addition to the architecture of HIS cafe, bit of a social gaffe. After a polite interval he demolished it, which benefitted my landlords; they got lots of interesting parts, including a matter transporter, from the rubble.

Which reminds me... You asked a while ago whether we considered Ook to be real. It was the end of a thread and nobody got around to answering it, but I never forgot the question.

In a lot of ways, Ook is as real to me as most of the 'patrons' In some cases, more real. For one thing, you can always count on his continuity. People can fade in and out.. part of the drawback of trying to exist both here and IRL, and you can be having a conversation with them and suddenly you realize that they weren't there during your last statement. But you can count on Ook. That's why it's so nice to have him as part of the café. Sure, he needs to travel and see the rest of the universe and learn things and spend time with Vlad, but it's nice to know he'll return.

Yes, a consistent stage presence really smooths the flow. I have an unau at the studio, and have invested her with all sorts of charming characteristics.

Actually, we're not clear about whether this bird is here or whether he stays on Garius' shoulder...

It's nice too, in a virtual setting, that Ook can bus tables and play scrabble. Mindspring, when given a donut to eat, becomes quite frenetic, practises her tap dancing.

I'll have to drop by the Atelier some time. I've been there to see the work, but haven't joined in. And now that you're a front page big-shot!

I really feel like I've gotten to know Ook in just a short time. The way I see him: he's relatively quiet, yet quite intelligent; he's happy when he's around people, yet independent enough to amuse himself when everyone's busy; there's a twinkle and impishness in his face, but his eyes are deep, almost sad.... or perhaps wise.

But then again, that's just what I see.

And of course he is disconcertingly blue.

I am now going to attempt to get some more rest. I'll probably be back at the keyboard in 4 or 5 hrs, but if I'm lucky I can score some solid REM sleep in the meantime.

Have we decided on what breed of parrot Peirrot is? I have just seen a commercial on NZ TV which features a flock of keas destroying a picnicing families car.... could our parrot have similar tendencies?

We'll have to let Garius decide the breed when he gets back on Monday.
