Howdy do, Redbeard! (ox peeks out from under the counter) I'm sort of stuck on some gum someone left under here, enjoying the eternal Now.
Maybe I should have a decaf.

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Jun 3, 2000
Don Henley is doing a live concert on A&E just now.
*serves up the orders*
I am really impressed with ox & Redbeard's verbal skills.
Mugs: I have discovered that JPG files ignore the SIZE= parameter, so I'm going to have to convert the second shelf.

Howdy to you, ox! Actually I think a piece of gum is important while enjoying the eternal Now, but there's some debate on how the gum should be applied.
No decaf for me, thank you. I think I'll have another Redbeard's Brew.

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Jun 3, 2000
*serves up a redbeard's brew and a decaf but lacks energy to slide them down the counter as usual*

Here, Lil, let me get that...
*hands decaf under the counter, and takes own mug*
Combination of being sick and taking your medicine, Lil?
Take care of yourself!

ox Posted Jun 3, 2000
It's that Karma thing-gets me gummed up all the time.
Thanks for the decaf! (ox hears a guitar in the distance, bows reverently to all in the Cafe and floats out the door.)

Really, I feel a lot better... as good as a battleground can feel when the right side wins.
I really enjoyed listening to that Don Henley concert, especially since he started with one of my all-time favourite cynical songs, "Dirty Laundry". He did some Eagles songs, too.
*makes green tea*

Glad to hear the right side is winning!
Mmmm, should have watched the concert... I've had something on in the background while I've been working, but couldn't even tell you what it was.
Had an odd experience here, today... my first guide entry left my control and started through the editorial process. Weird to see words change in your own entry! Unfortunately, they missed the updates I did to clean it up 5 days ago, but I wrote the sub-editor and he's going to pass them on.

That's a relief. The subbies have become more responsive overall, after a few people rattled their cages concerning unilateral editorial change without representation. If you get a change, go to h2g2 feedback and scan down till you find a thread labelled "Hunter S. Thompson article", instigated by yours truly.
would you like some of this tea? It's good for you.

I've got a very exciting baseball game on in the backgroud... had tickets for it, actually, but stayed home to have dinner with my grandfather instead.
That's the stupidest thing about the editorial system... you can tell who subs your entries, so the rejection notes are not anonymous unless you never check the bottom of your page.
YES! Phillies just won.
Good luck, redbeard!

Sure, I'll have some green tea. Sounds good. Even if it IS good for me.
*dashes over to the H.S. Thompson thread, reads the first 127 screens and then bookmarks it to read the rest later*
Wow! Nice analysis on your part, interesting discussion, and more!
In my case, I think the article got to the subeditor before I made my updates (even though that was 5 days ago) and they never realized that I had edited it... and I never knew that it was being reviewed by a sub until it had been passed on.

Thanks Ioreth,
*realizes that while he consistently uses the I instead of L now in Ioreth, he doesn't know how it's pronounced*

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Jun 3, 2000
I think that thread should be on Phil's tour. Although the article was finally altered, I personally thought it unsatisfactory, a shotgun wedding of the original author's slangy style with my more academic style -- and one grammatical error left in to boot. There have been a few punch-ups onsite, but only one that was so exceptional as to require deletion. I will let Looneytunes guide you to another dishy thread.
*makes more tea*
Ioreth, your filial piety is meritorious.

*reads another 85 full page essays within the H.S. Thompson thread and realizes the thread has moved only half-way down the scroll bar*
Definitely, this is a classic thread, with tons of interesting and useful discussion.
Hmmm. I'll have to ask Løønytünes«« about the other dish!

*takes a bow*
Thankee.
I don't actually know how it should be pronounced... ioreth was an extremely minor character in the Lord of Rings who amused me. I mentally say ee-o-reth, but ir coul be I-O-reth. Take your pick.
Caretaker Counter Pt. 11
Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Jun 3, 2000
I've been mentally pronouncing it with a short i as well.
wrt the HST thread, I will fight to the death for the distinction between "its" and "it's."
I will retire for the night now, and hope for several consecutive hours of sleep.
*busses counter, obtains melons & bananas for the dozing orang's breakfast, cleans the IIEM*
Ok y'all see you tomorrow.

Pronunciation probably isn't that important here, but I still have a tendency to hear names in my head. I had been thinking eye-or'-eth, but realized eye'-or-eth, ee-or'-eth, or even yor'-eth were possible. Now I'll just go with whatever amuses me at the moment Thanks.
