*helps self to fresh coffee. Puts out todays papers. Sits down with his laptop, to catch up on some forums and correspondance*

*Strolls in, hugs Ook. Pauses. Hugs B-17 in a manly "did you catch the game last night" kind of way and proceeds to the counter.*

IIEM, one low caffeine Coffee, purlease.

I'm about to embark on a clinical research trial (selling my body to science) and i have to cut out both caffeine and alcohol. It always makes me grouchy and irritable. Grrrrrr. Headaches too. Grrrr.

The reason for said trial is that I just successfully quit another job.
Hurrah

This news is however of serious import for my regularity here at the Cafe.

Unlike the students, I have no fixed date for when I will return and it grieves me mightily. However.....

This has happened before! I went AWOL for a peiod of nearly 3 months from H2G2 last year and still managed to find my way back. If I believe hard enough, then it might just happen.....!
Any way, I'm here until Thursday, and I know that Ook has some good friends and a steady job here.

I just wanted to share my sadness

Mornin'. It's just gone 5 am where I am -- I was reading the New Yorker for a while when I recollected that you Brits would be up and about. Will you be on the counter today? I have someone visiting after lunch and don't expect to be back on till late in the evening.

*gets an A L Special, gives fruit to Ook and biscotti to Pierrot*

I'm fine.... except I'm not gonna be around much for a while.
I can't even tell people at w**k that I'm leaving yet because they haven't found a replacement.

I'm going in four days for chrissake and nobody knows.

I'm afraid Vladimir is going to be missing, presumed gone. For some time. This happens periodically in between jobs. Doesn't mean I won't spend my research trial money on a brand spanking new Mac though.

Then I would just be here at a different time of day. And in the meantime, we have plenty of Ook-sitters, and I will still drop in when I get the chance.

Surely we can determine a reason for Vlad to be away for an indeterminate period. Are you embarking on an expedition?

I go in search of inner peace. There will be some travelling. There will be some earthenware pots. There will be old men smelling of Yak.

I hope to bring back and share some of this with you all.
