flooting

Post 81

Barley

I sit in a world where everything moves around me,
twisting and truning and flooting around.

You seam to float by me, and smerk like you do.
My movement is slow in comparision to you.
You try to slow down, to sit by me
but I know you'll be back the next time around.

I sit here and see what I can see,
to know what I can be.
I sit and watch a forlorn world turn back in on it's self
and oh there you are comming back to me.

I sit in a world where everything moves around me,
twisting and truning and flooting around.
I smile and know how it would be to not know of someone watching and waiting
just like me.

Bahb

ah, to blow my misty wistful horn of ages past
and drown out sour notes within with effervescent pools of drowsy blues!

to sit in molten sky upon the floor of swooshing rooms
and blow out all my troubles to the waning darkness of the next blue moon!

a corner set aside for me is in my eyes a place of fractured sounds
a puzzle to be organized by
long srong arms imposed by sax...
ah! sax, golden sax of wondrous hue so blue!
you let me blow my blues away and cure my
ills any old time
even sitting here in the corner of the men's room in the
Aroma Cafe'.

Gavroche

Wrote this a couple years ago, but I like dusting it off every year about this time and sharing it with a few people.

Loyal - by Gavroche

In history class I was taught
In order to be good Americans
We must seek to address our problems
By working within the system.
The system too can be changed
From within.

I have ancestors who
Agreed completely with this philosophy.
However, in the same history class
I was taught my ancestors were wrong.
They were loyalists
And sought to address their problems within the system.

The British system.
Their neighbors believed in Revolution.
It wasn't Marxist, but still, it was a revolution.
And today our teachers' tell us
Revolutions aren't necessary.
That's what my ancestors told their neighbors.

Their neighbors didn't listen. Should We?

I had to throw something in..It's just the most recent poem Ive heard so theres no reason to why I'm posing it.

There once was a girl from Belfast
Who had a remarkable ass
not soft round and pink
as you probably think
but one with long ears that eats grass.

Stuff That Gibbon - by the Goodies

Take that gibbon by the hand
Listen to the rhythm of the band
Slap him up and down upon the floor
Tickle his feet and hear him giggle
Then unzip him down the middle
Give that gibbon what he's hollerin' for.

Ooooh stuff that gibbon
Oooh stuff that gibbon
Oooh stuff that gibbon now.
>repeat<

Do you want to hear the rest?...Are you sure?!

Hey guys--My name's jack, but you can call me Triv. Whichever. I'm a newbie, but I liked the idea of a digital coffeehouse so I thought I'd give ya something as a reverse housewarming present.

Check me here, start a thread. We'll get along just fine, I promise. smiley - smiley

‘Research’

I’ve learned a lot of things from poets, noted scholars, dead white males
About the art of crafting things when mind and inspiration fails
It does no good to brainstorm and does even less to scream and curse
When all you need’s a syllable to finish out a metered verse

So if you need a witty line or if the words refuse to roll
Or if you simply don’t have time to think of something smooth and droll
Do what Shakespeare did to give his plays and sonnets extra size
And pad your work with borrowed--screw it, let’s not mince words--plagiarize

Everybody does it, even though that doesn’t make it right
But popular opinion makes it easier to sleep at night
Pilfer little words and phrases, copy with tenacity
But please don’t retype ‘Moby Dick’ or pen ‘The Glass Menagerie’

So give the Bard what’s coming to him, ‘wear your heart upon your sleeve’
I don’t think he’d mind--that line was lifted from Euripides
People steal, it’s human nature, out of desperation wrought
But don’t assume that no one’s watching, don’t be stupid, don’t get caught

JAR (happy to be back, but where's Ping?)

Well, I'm a rotten poet, but I quite proficient at copying. Does that count?

Shakespeare,
Sonett XIV (I think)

"Shall I compare thee to a Summers day?
Thou art more lovely, and more temperate
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
and Summers lease hath all too short a date

Some times too hot the Eye of Heaven shines
and often is his gold Complexion dimmed
and every Fair from fair sometimes decline
by Chance or Natures course untrimmed

But thy Eternal Summer shall not fade
nor loose possesion of that Fair thou own'st
Nor shall Death brag thou wanderst in his shade
when in eternal Lines to Time thou grow'st

So long as Men can breath or Eyes can see
so long lives This, and This gives life to Thee"

Please excuse the uncalled for use of capitalization. It is almost time for me to go home from w*rk, and I'm getting delusional.

Dark Grieve
-----------

Narrow beam,
Crystal light.
Strike my soul,
Grant me sight.

Let me see,
A new world.
Dark and lonely,
Fingers curled.

Gripping tight,
To departed friends.
Hoping time,
Souls may mend.

Grant me now,
Blush of youth.
Bright eyed life,
Seek the truth.

My poems only are any good when I freeform them (I don't like rhymes) and when I am in dark mood. That was inspired by the death of someone I knew, last week. smiley - sadface

I'm sorry. smiley - sadface Loosing friends is truly horrible, especially to freak accidents.

I hope you find some consolation in writing. Many people do.

I always write. It is how I keep track of my mind. It is a record of my moods, my thoughts, my sanity. I have always used it to grieve too.

The possebilities.

I used to write a lot, but the last year've lost much of my inspiration (a bad thing). But I think perhaps that might be because I've gotten a lot more control of my life (a good thing) during that same period of time.

Using writing as a record of ones sanity is a very good idea. Do you often read back? Check out how you felt way back when?
(Is there anybody else checking the nook out doing this? How does a regular h2g2-researcher use poetry?)

JAR, on the verge of actually researching?

I use my journal for my poetry now. It records it all and peoples' reactions to the words. I put "Dark Grieve" up there. It is rare for people to visit and record a comment, but I feel no need to worry about that. The poems are more for myself.
