WEEK NINETEEN - Results
GreyDesk Posted May 9, 2004
To be honest with you I'm a bit disappointed with this week's performances. The winning score was a mere 9 points which is very low considering that there were 40% more games and a total of 35 points up for grabs.
My feeling is that as this was the last week of the Division 1 season, and all of the games were crucial for promotion or relegation purposes, that folk went with the decisive results by way of natural bias. When in actual fact the majority of the matches turned out to be crucial draws. Ho-hum
Turning our attention to the table. You will notice there has been a significant change
Yes that's right, I've slipped another place down to 13th and have been overtaken by WILD-BIRIYANI. Oh and Leeds seem to be at the top courtesy of Psycorp's 9 pointer this week.
Sorry todd, you're just going to have to pull your finger out if you're going to reclaim the top spot that you've had for most of this season

Can I request that future FF thread skip the 'live' commentary please? It's a lot of backlog to work through.

Bickering? I'm not bickering. I have a zen-like calm about the whole situation
Something last night prompted me to take a look at some of the Division 2 stats for the season. As I'm sure you can imagine, such things are generally not of any great interest to me, so I haven't really been following them during the year.
What struck me was just how large Sheffield Wednesday's average gate is in comparison to the other clubs in the league; and how out of kilter that gate size was in comparison to their final league position of 16th.
Wednesday seem to have an average gate of around 20,000+ per game. All the other teams in the league, bar three, have gates in the region of 4-6,000. The three exceptions are Plymouth, QPR and Bristol City who are in the 11-15,000 range - bigger than average, though way less than Sheffield. Yet look where those three clubs finished - 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
What is going on?
Would it be that the cost of maintaining the debt is so great that it is sucking the life-blood from the club?

The short answer is Yes. Where Wednesday are now is where Leeds will be in a couple of years, I fear.
I also think it doesn't help them with Hillsborough being such a great cave of a place. 22,000 were there when I saw Argyle beat them to go top of the league, yet the place seemed less than half-empty and the Wednesday fans seemed to make very little noise.
I don't understand why they don't shut one of the stands to concentrate the support a bit more.
I mentioned this to one of my housemates, and he suggested they take Ken Bates' money and make him sit in one particular stand, which would have the same effect but without officially closing it
Key: Complain about this post
