In the true spirit of the guide and Douglas Adams vision for it I'm in and will begin posting information about my horrid little corner of the globe known as Los Angeles.

Count me in. I don't get out much nowadays, but as I live in Devon (England) there are a hundred lovely places that I could tell you all about. (Having said that, some are _too_ nice, and I want to keep them to myself!)

Another Devon researcher here! I'd like to sign up too, especially as I have an entry on Sidmouth just gone into PR. Please pop along and pass comment. If you're good, I might finish my Dartmouth entry one day...

I don't appear to have posted here since October 2003, so it's about time I welcomed everybody who's joined the Soc since then. Which is just about everybody
WELCOME!

Welcome indeed - I'll add you all to the membership list as soon as I get time.
In the meantime, have a look around at the rest of the Society pages, particularly the Members Bar over at A1337546, which is where anyone tends to post if there's anything going on - it's probably best to subscribe to that page (click on the 'click here to be notified of new conversations about this Guide Entry') and of course investigate and subscribe to any conversations that interest you!

Six What happened to the idea of having a Geog Soc badge? Wasn't somebody designing something, or is it a figment of my imagination?

I guess I should sign up. I'm an Australian by nature but I've got knowledge of other places (having travelled a fair bit)
I've had the following accepted to the EG as qualification;
A4187559 The Gorge Swimming Hole, Beechworth, Victoria, Australia
A6649996 Nottinghamshire
A7641380 Vanuatu
A7763781 Karlstadt am Main, Germany
My specialist subject (sounds a bit like MasterMind) is:
Australia - North East Victoria

Just found you guys! Can I join? I am Lebanese, lived in SE UK on and off for 30 (gulp) years but also lived in Ghana, Nigeria and NE Ohio at different stages of my life. Have done a fair bit travelling in between 'n' all... I have one entry pending A7078656 on Lebanon. I am soooo sorry, Atlantic Cable ...(I put in a shed load of links - I now know better )

Husht, Rich.I was struggling 4 weeks ago. Would that I could say it took me less time to sort my sad brain out... I didn't know where to start so just jumped in feet first as it is, there's a lot that can spin off from this: juju, the speaking fabrics, the Ashanti Golden Stool - and all the gorgeous reserves, forts and forests in Ghana. Could keep someone busy for the next decade this .

Sounds like a good gaff!
Can contribute on rural northwestern US and Canada, chicago area, or north africa (with a collaborator). Perhaps UK, but most of the areas I'm at all familiar with are well-covered. V.

Another convo just popped up in my space from this little corner of H2G2 so I'm bumping this one up in the hopes that someone will notice us. I didn't state my speciality before but can probably do bits of Scotland (central Eastern), Southern Portugal, bits of Greece (the ones Gnomon hasn't got to yet!) and Cyprus.

A timely reminder - I was making a list of links for use while I'm subbing and curating at A19568343, and virtually every country has a gap where the capital city or the country itself has no Entry as yet. I was going to suggest that we try to fill some of them, but forgot until the postings tonight...
Ireland and Scotland are both lacking dedicated Entries for a start, and I'm sure there are more that we could work on if we put our minds to it.

Hello everyone - and welcome and apologies for the delay where applicable... I'll add everyone that needs to be added to the membership list as soon as I can (which is everyone on this thread that hasn't already been added) although it might be a little while before I can do it.
As I'm not around much at the moment, and haven't been for a while, and may not be in the future, might anyone feel like taking the Society on?
Skanky? Alex? Broe? It's as much or as little as you want it to be, really - you might remember I was quite evangelical about it when I was on h2g2 a lot, but obviously I've been a lot quieter for a while. I suppose what I'm saying is that you can't really be much more 'hands-off' than I have been of late...

Actually you're right - no meetings for ages
