Yes, of course it's possible smiley - smiley When I update the Language Thing (see the sign-up thread), I'm going to include a list of characters with accents etc. Also, if you press down the 'Alt Gr' button and then a vowel, you get an acute accent.

Cat-Eyes: No..... why.... ?

Uh, I take it that means the Alt button, cause I don't have a Gr button OR an Alt Gr button...

Also, the reason I don't write this in french is, I don't speak French smiley - biggrin My French teacher turned me right off that...

look at your keyboard, on mine there is the alt button at the left side of the blank button, and the alt GR on the right side. It's the button you have to press to write the @

...unless you have a different keyboard layout, in which case you might not have an Alt Gr button. Alt probably won't work for these purposes...

I'm with a German keyboard, if that's what you want to know, and yes, it's this button left of the erase-button in the top-line smiley - smiley

QWERTZ? I'm assuming that's different to QWERTY, and not just a rather odd typo...

Anyway, left of my QWERTY 'delete in left direction' is the =/+ button.

I will get round to making a list of keyboard shortcuts for accents eventually, though. They use the NumPad on the right of the keyboard (well, it's the right on a QWERTY keyboard, anyway smiley - tongueout), and you hold down Alt and type in a 3/4 digit code. For example, to get an é character, you make sure NumLock is on, hold down Alt and type in 130 on the NumPad.

smiley - laughsmiley - ermsmiley - laugh this is really inter-cultural knowledge exchange..
smiley - cool look what it does if I type NumLock, Alt and 130: ³} smiley - laugh but that's the normal 130, it won't do anything with the numbers on the right.

Cat-Eyes: No..... why.... ?

Well, I have a QWERTY keyboard and everything except the whole alt GM or whatever key is probably the same as Joe's. And I do know the Alt numpad shortcuts.

I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know that the first prototype department for the new-look Language Thing is ready... and it's the French Department!

I'd rather not give out the A-number until they're all ready and finished, though. I'm sure you'd be able to find it if you really wanted to, but I'd like to keep them all back until we're ready to go with the new system smiley - smiley

Hopefully, in the early part of next week (or by next weekend at the latest) you'll be looking at the results of what's probably my biggest h2g2 project ever smiley - biggrin

Joe C (Very happy to have finished his prototype and looking forward to unveiling it)

The Language Thing

OK, I'm running a little ahead of schedule...

I've finished the French and Spanish Departments, and I've decided to go ahead and launch these now, while I work on the rest.

So if you could move conversation from here over to the Speakers thread at A2658684... smiley - biggrin
