All that, and something more, anhaga... What if, when Bush's back is turned and everyone's attention is on Iraq, Nth Korea sends missiles? Pity help the USA then!

"Incidentally, the United States supports Palestinian independence and statehood and has been doing more than any other country to try and bring peace to the region."
That's more like it Zagreb, you're much more palatable when you're doing comedy.

How many US peace missions have there been to Israel? Why was Colin Powell "knocked back" by Sharon? Why did the US demand Israeli tanks withdraw from the West Bank in 2002? How often has the US stated it's intentions on Palestinian statehood? What country was instrumental in achieveing Palestinian autonomy?
But, hey, unless they bomb Israel they must just be supporting everything Sharon does, right?

No, Della...pity help North Korea then.
And they know it.
That would be a "gloves off" battle that none of us in the world want. I don't think they are that crazy. I think thats' the primary reason they are being dismissed at the moment.
If others in the world think they are that crazy, it would be in their best interest to reign in North Korea.
If they let loose a "nuke" at the US, I don't think I need to explain what the retaliation will be!

RAF Wing... Lookee I'm Invisible!! Posted Mar 16, 2003
1) If the United States had taken a hands-off approach, there wouldn't be a Likud party in power in Israel right now. The Likud knows they can get away with it because they'll be rearmed whenever necessary and protected too. That makes intractability so much more profitable. Assertions about American peace efforts in the middle east are just so much self-serving BS.
Anwar Sadat and Golda Meir made peace the last time. Carter gave them a forum, bless his soul still. He might have been the only decent president America has had in recent years, but the Egyptians and Israelis worked it out themselves in the end.
2) You don't have to be anti-American to be against this war, but of course it helps since the American government is pushing the war, buh!!
3) Americans can't afford this war, even if it were right as rain, which it isn't. The economy has tanked, the poor are getting poorer and even the rich are going to feel it before long. Where do they think the hundreds of billions of dollars are going to come from to support this war crap?
4) Zageb's parroting of the humantarian baloney is just serving the American regime which apparently found the pretext of the UN resolution wasn't getting enough support. Nothing in that resolution says anything about rebuilding Iraq into some sort of United States sponsored democracy.
We've yet to see if it'll work in Afghanistan, and given the American government's dismal record in this particular area, I think we need to wait and see if it works before trying it elsewhere at the very least. "Rebuilding" one country at a time ought to be enough.
5) What's the rush? We've had plenty of time to produce a legal declaration of war, but there still isn't one. Why is that? Where's the emergency? We've had plenty of time to raise insurance rates all over the United States, but we don't have enough time to get a peaceful resolution?
6) This war benefits no one but Bush and Company and even they might get bitten in the ass sooner or later. It seems they're betting the whole farm now expecting to win the whole pot. Of course if they don't, it ain't their farm they're betting is it?

>>What about what Palestinian suicide bombers have being doing to ordinary Israelis for the past few years? <<
Och, Zagreb, man, ye are so naive!
In the latest intifada, death tolls are wildly disproportionate - hundreds of Israelis, 1000s of Palestinians (someone else will no doubt be able to find exact numbers).
Palestinians have stones, kids with slingshots, and the *occasional* suicide bombers. Israelis have tanks, bombs and guns. I heard about the deaths of 6 Israelis, on the BBC yesterday. All were killed by fellow Israelis! Friendly fire and incompetence!
Zagreb, laddie, ye aye need to check yon facts a bit more carefully, afore ye speak oot

1)If the US had taken a "hands off" approach to Isreal, the Arab nations would have already shoved them into the sea...in spite of a worldwide agreement on its' founding and right to exist.
2)And, gee...I thought you were a citizen of the US. Are you anti American? I think, if I'm not mistaken, you can very well be anti war and still quite a member of the citizenry of this country.(though there are a few other nations in this world where this concept is not true.)
3) The economy is tanked because the final decision has been dragged out. The NYSE rose by over 225 points Friday because investors sensed a decision soon......it did't matter to them which way the decision went. Just a decision. The general economy is the same.
4) Golly...I guess it did't work in Europe after WWII either. I'm sure France, Germany and Britain will agree, they live under US control. Its' a shame what puppet governments force on the people.
5) Declaration of war was made 12 years ago. Saddam agreed to disarm in 15 days as terms of a CEASE FIRE. I think his 15 days are up, or do you have a different definition of 15 days than I have?
6) And for some reason you doubt the US military can defeat Saddams' Iraq! You're kidding, right!?

Iraqi oil, aka reperations (I know the US govt is the agressor but they make up the rules as they go along)

Frogbit...I did not think you so dense.
The US gave rather large loans to the European countries following WWII(Marshall Plan). Those loans(never repaid, incedentally) insured that their infrastructures, societies and economies could recover following the war.
The last time I checked, the US did not install puppet governments in this case.
Seems I hear a lot on this thread that the US is given to installing governments in exchange for cash/favors.
If that be true, its' a darn shame we didn't think to do it in the years following WWII!
