[Sharp]: (sudden intuitive revelation): "Aha! That blade is obviously cursed, and there must be something more to this than it would initially appear. *grabs a sword (not the dark sword) from where the had been juggling them, and performs an ancient type of mystic ceremony for dealing with h-fiends (and the like).*
: You'll find this same ceremony described in the folkloric tale of The Red book of Appin by the way. that's not what the story is called mind you, it's that the story is about a very peculiar and strange book that is named that. .
[Sharp] *Uses sword to enscribe a circle around where he is standing, to make a protective-barrier.*
[Sharp]: "And now for the fun part." *Does a variation of signature move, in which 'stead of holding still like before, jumps upward in an arc, moving to crouching pose @ peak of the arc, and completes downward 1/2 of arc by doing a downward hammerfist*
: The upshot of all this fancy set of movements being that,-A big rock materializes, and instead of just simply falling, it is hurled @ an straight angle toward the monster.
[Sharp]: ", next?" ...

The rock scores a direct hit on the monster's head, which would have crushed any mortal creature - but it merely gets a huge bump and roars more loudly.
[Gandark] somebody grab the tail!

[Aeryn] *creeps closer to the girl on the ground, still in the shadows. She's just about to grab the girl and get her out of the way*

*Gandark casts Fire on monster*
The monster snaps at Gandark, and the general direction the rock came from.

[Aeryn]: *While the monster is distracted, Aeryn grabs at the girl, and starts dragging her back into the shadows.*

The injured barefoot little girl squeals, and a halfling woman dashes out of a building "Oh my baby! Where is she!?"
The little girl is a halfling child. Her leg is wounded so badly that she cannot walk and she needs medical attention because it's likely to become infected. (she was lying in the dirt)

[Aeryn]: Your girl's over here. She's fine. Well, I'm sure she will be, anyway.
*Aeryn picks up her bag and goes to leave*

The halfling mother says, "Oh thank you thank you thank you! You saved my daughter's life! My husband is a banker - he will surely reward you if you are in need of funds! Meanwhile, I must find a healer for my daughter."
[Gandark] Try the church - and get out of here before this monster eats you both! Come on people! Let's finish it!! I'm pretty sure if somebody can grab that dark sword (looks like it's still stuck in the ground) they'll control it!
Rrrrooooaaaarrrr!!!

[Aeryn]:*Looks doubtful, she doesn't want to be a hero. She considers just fading back into the shadows and leaving the monster to his lunch. With a sigh, she joins the fray. Leaving the shadows, she became fully visible and moves towards the sword*

[Aeryn] *grabs the monster's tail while it is distracted.*
Wonders "Now what?"

With a final screech the monster dissapates into a huge swirling torrent of black smoke which then flows upward and around in swirling eddies of cursed vapors until it all seems to flow into the blade of the Dark Sword, revealing it's new holder - the elf Aeryn.
The crowd stares in awe at her and at the powerful instrument of evil in her hands, in a manner that would make most people very uncomfortable, embarrased and self-conscious for a few moments before the long drawn-out silence is broken by an outbreak of applause but then the silence is restored when the Jester finally falls down out of the clouds and says, "Ta-da!!!"
[Jester] Hey!! Where's the monster!? I was going to attack it!
A rather rough-looking individual in armor grabs the Jester by the arm and says, "No - you aren't going anywhere. It's a crime to bring a cursed blade into a peaceful town or else I'll hang after you!"
[Jester] But I didn't do anything! Honest!
That's for the King to decide.
Gandark steps up beside Aeryn and examines the sword.
[Gandark] That's a Nightmare Blade ... a weapon of a Dark Knight. It's posioned - must have been that little girl's blood that set it off. This must be why only Dark Knights are able to weild the Dark Sword ... We could be in serious trouble if we don't have Paladins to counter them! But we can't get Paladins without the King's consent ...
[Tough Guy] The King will be a bit busy for a while considering this man's trial!
[Jester] But I didn't do -
"Silence!"

[Gandark] Excuse my manners, Madam.
*bows and removes hat*
[Gandark] I am Gandark Underhill, Professional Wizard, at your service. You'll have to take that blade to the King. It's not likely this crowd will let you leave town with it, even if they aren't much good in a monster-type fight.

[Aeryn] *sighs* I just had to be a hero, didn't I? Not even in this town for more than half an hour when suddenly I have to go meet the king. *sigh*
Are you sure you don't want this? I have a problem with magic, like I'm allergic to it. It may blow up in my face? *hopefully offering Gandark the sword*

[Aeryn] Suddenly realises that she's been offered a chance to go see the *king* in a *palace* where there live a whole lot of rich people - and grins*
On second thoughts, I'll take it *snatches sword back*
Where is the king's place then?
No one can hear my thoughts, right? And no one knows I'm a thief yet, right - like, unless I get caught or tell soomeone?

That is correct - except that there do exist people who can read minds, but it's a very very very rare ability that is very very difficult to master, and the King (to the best of Gandark's and anyone in the crowd's knowledge) does not have access to that power. The Dark Knights may be another matter...
I probably can't reveal much more ... gotta try and keep it to what your character is likely to know.
Your character now has the chance to become the first (online) legendary hero, if you accomplish certain goals that have to do with your new sword - which might not be a good idea to use just yet ...
A thief eh? I forgot that for a moment. This could get even more interesting...

[Aeryn] *hefted the blade and examined in closely. The hilt was bound in tight black wire, and the blade glistened with a bluish sheen. It was plain, but beautiful. Aeryn unsheathed her own battered sword, and slid the new one into her scabbard. She tucked her own sword into her belt on the other side, fully aware that she now looked uneasily like a pirate. She grabbed her heavy pack and asked again*
So where's that castle?
