It's raining. Soon the rain will freeze and make everything look as if it's been dunked in doghnut glaze or sumthin'. All the trees and the tall grasses will be bent over from the weight of the ice as the temp. goes lower and lower.
The furnace will kick on and on. More than likely the cable system will fail. The phone might very well go out along with all the electrical stuff.
You don't dare venture out! Unless you're a World Class Ice Skater.
...wha' was the question?
Hmm.
Anyway, the Lake will make something known here as: Lake Effect Snow.
We'll be buried up to our snowmoblies in drifts. Probably won't even have the Postal Mail running.
Everyone will HAVE TO stay home!
Nine months from now the natal units will be busy!
I always wanted to Winter in the tropics again. But then ... I'd miss Winter in Ohio.

It's 60ยบ here today. Pan, luv, you should be grateful for some cold weather. We haven't had enough to kill the bugs. They're going to carry us off next summer unless we get a good cold snap soon.

Lady Scott Posted Feb 15, 2005
Is that Celcius or Farenheit?
We started out with snow and sleet this morning, but then it switched over to rain by this afternoon.
Much as I'd like to see another coating of white this winter, I'm glad this huge storm system is coming through at a time when it's not cold enough to be all snow - we'd be knee deep in it! Or worse!

We have flowers in bloom all winter here in SW England. I'm from NE Wisconsin, and have to laugh when the natives complain about the winters...
What winter??
Winter In Ohio
Coniraya Posted Feb 15, 2005
We have had a winter bypass in SE UK, spring flowers began to appear at the end of last month, the are singing away busily. From autumn to spring with barely a frost.
I would love sone proper winter weather.

We're looking forward to WINTER down here below the Tropic of Capricorn. Daybreak temperatures should drop to just above Zero C (30's F). Late afternoons won't go above the high Twenties C (80 F).
It'll bring welcome relief from the summer heat and, when riding my motorcycle home, I won't get caught in one of those rather inconvenient half-hour 4PM thundershowers...!
Winter in Sub-tropical Africa! May as well be in Spain?

Pandora...Born Again Tart Posted Feb 15, 2005
I always thought that the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain!
You mean those "ladies" at Charm School didn't tell the truth! Tisk!
...*removes from atop her head...* Ooo much better
Bugs??? If they have many spots killum! ing bitting Chinese Beatles!
If there are only a few spots they are lady bugs and quiet useful & non offensive.
Just set out vases of water & sugar & the little buggers will dive right in. I find the window ledges the best spots!
Since my friend gave me a pair of kittens even the few lady bugs that come out when the weather goes warm don't stand a flying snowballs chance in h**l

Had to get up at 6.30am this morning & out as quick as possible ... minus 3 degrees C - extra - & that was in Newbury, England (near Oxford)!!
Still, wouldn't live where you are Pan - my blood would freeze
They're predicting snow for next Tuesday according to the weatherman tonight - probably only be a slight sprinkling again.
I remember when I was young (aaah, many years ago ) you'd open the door & push the snow away that had piled up against it and ... school would be cancelled Hmm, must be global warming!
The coastline in Norfolk, where we have a bungalow, has broken down even further now & the foundations of a cafe there have been disturbed - that won't be opening again. Global warming again I suppose

Dam*!!!! Now where are you gonna' put me in my old age? I think I MUST be near a cafe`. ...*looks sweetly at WR...* I could live in a cardboard box in your yard with weather like you have. Probably don't have much of a yard, do you? I could bring my own plugs of Canada Green grass seeds and make a yard some where near a cafe` near you. Of course it all depends on what Kes is willing to provide for Gwennie and myself. mari
has insisted we both come to live with her so she can watch after us. I'd love to see TRY to keep up with me.
As I look out my sitting room window ... ohmyhell...there are footprints in the snow! In my back yard. They don't appear to be bear prints.
We got about five inches of fluffy white snow whilst I slumbered throughout the night.
Yesterday was beautiful!! Sunny and 65 F. Now it's 15 F.
Shirps, how on Earth would YOUR blood ever freeze?
(do you recall the 'drinking' thread on which we met all those nearly five years ago? )
I ever tell you guys about a fella' from Africa who was going to visit me this Winter via a motorcycle? The was told he might encounter a bit-o-frost.
I told the poor chap he'd have to be able to see through the snow drifts to be able to see any frost!

Hiya
With regard to what I posted earlier about the Norfolk coastline, my daughter found this news site posted today, which is exactly where we have a bungalow (not where the cafe is, but on the edge of the village overlooking the sea - on a clifftop - when the sea does break through, we will walk down the cliff onto the "beach": there is a valley between the dunes where the cafe is & just by the clifftop. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4272965.stm
Of course the sea will then begin to break down this cliff face & also flood straight into the village.
Global warming? If that is the cause & if it is due to man's thoughtlessness, then everyone, ALL nations should stop being so greedy & try to undo at least some of the damage we've done.
This sort of thing is happening all over the world. I heard the other day that Holland is in dire risk of flooding - some are building houses on "floaters", so as the sea comes in they will, hopefully, rise with it
