I think it's more like "fengshui" You could well have done without your major troubles this year (nothing like stating the obvious ), as if you haven't enough to cope with. You could say, I suppose, "that's life" or, en Francais, "c'est la vie" - but life - ahh what a precious commodity that is
Fireman's Fest ? What's that?
Ah! Summer - that's just what you need Pan, deckchair in the sun & a lazy afternoon ing alternating with reading with a few vodkas by your side & those 'orrible little fur balls playing at your feet - I can just picture it .....
Get the warmth to those legs & I'm sure they'll start slowly gyrating
PS You don't live anywhere near Yellowstone Park do you? My geography is appalling & can't find my Atlas

Arn't you sitting on it? Oh! AT-less!
I'm only about two thousand miles from Yellow Stone. That's Stagehand's territory, sort of.
Paul H & I live near where America starts to go skinny near the Great Lakes up toward the North East. We're just across the Lake (Erie) from Canada!
I've been dancing a bit. My balance is awful but I've only fallen once.
...*knocks on her head with her fist ...for...'knock wood'...*
What, do you ask is a Fireman's Fest??
Come now, Shirps old friend. Use your imagination!

Ah! A BIG FUN DAY - all those firemen Tell 'em I want more photos in there - where's the one of you last year? Very worthy cause keeping all those young men nice & fit Now, Pan, you just keep veeery calm & & wait with patience (nice lady who is very serene )
2,000 miles, hmm, guess when Yellowstone goes off , you'll have a chance - Just watched a prog here about the chance of a SuperVolcano erupting in Yellowstone - pretty scary stuff , but then they've been putting scares out about asteroids & all manner of things.
The way I look at it is: no point in losing over it - no-one can do anything - shrugs shoulders
You'll get there - walking is liking riding a bike, you never forget, it's just a matter of balance - huh, did I say "just"
Here comes the sun, do-de-do-day
I just loved George H - he was the best one

I know Now he's singin' for some lucky
No more doom & gloom talk for me please and thank you. I'd like to try to stay as posative as possible so that when the next round of life hits the fan my mind will be in low gear.
The last time we had a fireman's fest here was MANY MANY years ago!!!
I started a charity in the 70's & was active in local politics. I was the youngest Chairman of The Zoning Board of Appeals ... like ever. I use
to love to SMACK the gavel and make grumpy old men sit down and be quiet.
The next highest Court was in The County Seat 20 miles West of here. And those judges were not as nice as I was.
I had 'swap meets' for hard core bikers ... food & clothing give aways ... haunted trails for holloween ... I'd some how talk the council into closing the Main Street & having rib burn offs ... beer in the streets even! I use to have The None Motorized Home Made Water Craft Races the first Sat. in Aug. at the local resevoir. I was emcee & would tease whomever was racing. Once I was even boat napped! Right in as the Liars Contest was set to start a group of guys came by in their craft, put me in the boat & took off!
All the guys playing water volley ball tried to "save me". It was pretty funny. I couldn't count how many events the charity held. But one of the last was the Fireman's Fest.
This will be the first time in about ... ... nearly 20 years any one has had the nerve to try it again!
THAT'S why I'm so pleased to have a ring side seat ... down on Main Street!

- no more - things like that really get to me - have done since I was old enough to know & understand anything
You have been a busy girl - even though you were/are nice, I bet you can give them he** when you want/need to
...ring side seat - only the best for you
Temperature over here has gone up to 13 C - - & I've only just got up (11.45am) - R never thought to wake me & he's been busy painting. Reckon I needed the sleep, but I hate to waste any warm temperatures - even though it's raining

How could ANY one consider SLEEPING a WASTE of TIME?!
The temp got quiet warm here last night as well. Must have been why I had that great dream! I don't know ... maybe it was because I ate a pickle before I went to sleep. I usually have very BADdream-mares when I eat pickles before bed time. But this dream ... we ... many of us from h2g2 were at Lake Como (where we'll be going from the Crossed Purposes Pub) in Italy. And a woman therapist wanted three couples to play a "touching game".
Brad Pitt was my partner. The idea was to *touch* as much of your partner as possible!
Actually it was a pretty fun game and the next time there are a few couples around it would be fun to play.
All you do is lie down ... & the other person (whomever has the best knees)
crawls across your body until fingers are touching fingers, hands are pressed together, faces are against each other and so on.
Then I woke up and really needed to open a WINDOW!
So at 3:44a.m. I had the box fan on high! Nuthin' like a good ole' hot flash ta' get those sweat glads kicked into high gear!
Did I tell you last Winter my mail carrier whom I've known since 1973 "caught me" walking around the yard bare footed?
He said, "Valerie Jane! Why in the World are you doing walking around in the snow barefooted?"
I just looked at him and said, "Hot flash."
He said, "Oh. I know ALL about those!" (he's married & has a few sisters)
I said, "You got here too early!"
Gary said, "Whado' you mean?"
I said, "I was jusss lookin' for a place to roll around naked!"
He took me by the elbow and said, "Here you go." He had walked me to the front yard, bent over & chucked a stick out of the way and made a Vanna White hand motion over the freshly fallen snow!
I told him I thought I may as well wait now ... until the trash crew comes by.
He said, "Hm, just my luck. FINE!"
Why don't I care for Winter? Now that it'll soon be over I sorta forget my

Hi Val! Hi Shirps!
I watched the Yellowstone program, Shirps. It is true that the center of the park is a caldera - 30 miles wide by 45 miles long. I've visited Yellowstone a few times and it was fun to see the pictures of it before they blew it all up on tv.
Those made for tv disaster programs always follow the same plotlines... the best part is always the special effects when the disaster happens.

Hiya both
My daughter & I visited Pompei some ... 11 years ago! We "did" the walk up to the top of the crater, but could see no activity & (would you believe it?) felt quite disappointed! They don't let visitors see the puffs of smoke coming out of the side of the volcano - 'tis round tuther side. We both brought back a bit of lava stone as a "memento". Little did we know that one is WELL overdue
I do wonder if most of us watch those programmes just for the special effects I'm afraid though I watched the other side after the progs. & saw how it could be all true!
Glad u saw it all before it blew
Temperature report: here it is 15 C & wonderful ... (sorry Pan) sunshine
Looks like a couple of new bushes (last year) have been "done-in" by the frost , but they may come round

Whatcha' sorry 'bout? It was nearly 50 F here today.
This is practiclayy swimming weather!
I need a nap. Like for twelve hours or sumthin'.
I had company yesterday & will again tomorrow. And I've been writing like a crazy woman hour after hour. I thinhk I'll goi sit mindlessly in front of the TV eating some tuna whilst I fight the kittens away.
Twice last week Bear made crab legs & stuffed mushrooms & stuff,
I told him, "Ease up or you'll have to go back to the Salvation Army and get back my donated dresses!"
He's also just gotten me several appliances for my sitting room. My friend Kim said I "have a pretty sweet set up". And why not?!

My cousin lives in Illinois - haven't a clue where it is - I've tried to contact him for the past 5 years, but it seems he's happy to be a now nationalised US citizen & doesn't want to know me any more
His loss, not mine

Illinois is a big state. It would be easy to disappear into it.
It's also one of the few inland states that has whales....in its aquarium, of course .

Yeah? Well, the 2 feet of snow that I had to drive through to get to w*rk the other day after it was 70 degrees (F) over the weekend just didn't thrill me at all. And, even though the film is called "First Snow", they had already done all the snow scenes and the shooting schedule didn't call for any.

Her portrayal of the nagging shrike in "It's A Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World" was genius.

Two points re: this discussion...
1. I was born, raised, married, and raised my children in Illinois. Illinois is in the middle, on the east side of the Mississippi River. Its biggest city is the famous city of Chicago. Chicago sits on nearly the tip of the long skinny Great Lake, Lake Michigan. Illinois was flat prairie, that is now put to use growing corn, mostly. You don't pronounce the 's' at the end.
2. We just bought our first ever dvd player. Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World was the first movie we played on it... mostly because I love it, but also because Kes had never seen it! I had been looking at him suspiciously and saying; "How come you sound so far-en? Are you from Harvard?", doing my best to imitate Ethyl, and he never got it until he finally saw the movie!
