I honestly didn't mean to cause offence with the merkin thing - I thought you got the other meaning (not the OED version )
Names for people around Britain:
Jock - Scottish
Geordie - Newcastle/Northumbria in general
Scouse - Liverpool
Mank - Manchester (see also manky )
Taff - Welshman/woman
Paddy - Irish
Sasenach (sas'er'nack) - Scottish name for the English
Brum - Birmingham
Yokel - Somerset/Norfolk farmer type. Known to roid in combiine 'arvesters. (That's 'ow they speak, innit)
Cockney - East end of London.
There are plenty more but I can't think of any off hand.

"Toff" probably comes from "Toffey-nose,"

In my neighborhood a yokel isn't from anyplace in particular but means th4e person is a hick.
Europeans call all Americans Yanks, but here a Yankee refers to someone from the Northeast. Dates back to the Civil War. A Yankee fought for the North and a Rebel fought for the South.

A barry/townie/kev/gazza is one who, self consciously tries to be cool and fasionable. It involves dressing in vibrantly coloured adidas, listening to hip hop, and drinking stella artois in public places. It involves suppressing your individuality and trying to be the lowest common denominator. They are the arch enemies of goths, grebs and punks.
