Lady~H, have you not yet seen how the young men have been wearing khaki short skirts here in the States?
Unlike the men of Scotland who, er, air thing out under theirs...
I'm afraid our young men wear undies. Don't EVEN ask me how I know. Just trust me.
Kilts are worn with the 'purse' in front to keep thing weighted down.
A friend of mine was marching out of his friends wedding in his kilt, playing the bagpipes when he slipped on the wet stone steps...he slid alllll the way down & landed at the feet of the groom's elderly Aunt. Bet that jussss made HER day! Whoo-Hooo
Bet she goes to lots of bagpipe affairs now too.

I'm afraid we have no young men in skirts of any persuasion here in the hills. The good old boys with the bib overalls, the shotguns and the coonhounds would soon put a stop to them if they showed up.

The Sporran. If you don't have a sporran it's just a skirt.
In the first world war the Scots, wearing kilts into battle, got some rather nasty injuries from the poison gas. And with that let us depart this topic.

When the first reports of it came in, they were offered protection from said gasses, but as they took the form of long legging type things, most of them were declined on the grounds that they looked like ladies' underwear.
On another WWI note, the Germans used to refer to the Scots as the "Women from Hell" because of their particular savagery, and their skirt- wearing tendencies. Before they saw them up close and realized that very few women can manage such facial hair as was the norm in Scottish regiments.
