A hero has died.
Posted Sep 14, 2006
Ann Richards died today; she was previously the Texas governor and has long been one of the most amazing women I had ever met.

That article neatly summarizes the wonderful things she did for politics, the Democratic party, and the state of Texas.
Here's what I remember.
She rode a motorcycle. She found the time to meet with random Brownie troops, and treated low-income Black girls like they were people, not a photo opportunity. Even when she was still in office, you'd run into her at Taco Bell and she'd stop and chat, even though you were a total stranger. And she dyed her hair purple for Halloween one year, I seem to remember.
She will be missed. In a lot of ways, she already was.

Entries I'm currently working on....
Posted Sep 10, 2006
More for my own reminder-ing than anything else, here are the entries I'm currently working on:
In PR: So You Want to Be a Nun ()
Rescued: Ley Lines (A3158615) - I've been working on this one off and on for a long, long time, and it still needs quite a bit of work. It's unclear in many places, and rather biased throughout. But it will get there eventually.
Started a long time ago: Natural Family Planning and the Fertility Awareness Method (A1106065) - I really do want to get this one done one of these days, but it is just taking a lot more work than the average entry. There aren't a lot of completely unbiased sources - most lean too heavily in one direction or the other - and a lot of the content simply talks about concepts that would be unfamiliar to most of the readers here. But it's definitely made a lot of progress over the last year. I'm betting people will still hate it when I put it in PR, though.
Another spin-off from Things to Know About Large Breasts: From Gargantuan to Modest: Having Breast Reduction Surgery (A14238993) - what started out as one entry is now spinning off into many separate entries, and this will be the second of such. Should be easy enough to write, as I have all of the info researched already, I just need to get writing.

Some sad news
Posted Apr 17, 2006
I'm not sure if there is anyone left on my friends list who remembers this h2g2 researcher, but I am passing on the sad news that Barton died on Saturday.
I will find out if there are any plans for a memorial or such, and will post any details here.
There just aren't any smileys I can make myself use for this one.

Post your answers below, and then feel free to copy the questions onto your own journal.
1. Have we met?
2. If so, where and when? If not, where and when would you like to?
3. What's the first thing you remember about me?
4. Do we stay in touch? Would you like it if we saw more of each other (or got the chance to meet)?
5. Would you consider me an internet acquaintance, internet friend, buddy, friend, close friend, best friend, family, lover or not a friend at all?

It's almost 3AM and....

Well, truly it's only 2:30am -- but the carpet cleaners will be here in 8 hours, and I've only cleaned half the house -- the upstairs is still largely left to be done.
There's something about cleaning that drives me to procrastination like nothing else in the world.... Hence, of course, being on hootoo at 2:30am when the only reason I'm still awake is that the cleaning is yet to be finished.
