Well, truly it's only 2:30am -- but the carpet cleaners will be here in 8 hours, and I've only cleaned half the house -- the upstairs is still largely left to be done.
There's something about cleaning that drives me to procrastination like nothing else in the world.... Hence, of course, being on hootoo at 2:30am when the only reason I'm still awake is that the cleaning is yet to be finished.

3AM is my new lunch time. I now work "graveyard" shift and that is ususally the time I eat my middle meal.
I think that cleaning before the carpet people come is sick! Nothing personal but why will they be there except to do what you are doing and paying them to do...
However if one were doing the normal cleaning and the profesionals were doing some special cleaning then thats OK (except at 3AM)
Somehow we need to incorporate the cleaning into a schedule and not at 3AM.

I agree that getting the cleaning done at normal hours would be a brighter thing to do. However, I normally try to do one room a week, so that everything gets done once a month. Since I was having the carpets shampooed, I needed to have absolutely everything up off the floor from everywhere -- including stuff that was hiding under furniture, etc. And since I was hard pressed to find places to put all the stuff that is normally out and about, I had to put it all in the kitchen -- which meant that it was easiest to go ahead and clean the kitchen first. Work has been crazy busy lately, and I've been working extra side jobs, so I just hadn't gotten enough of all this done beforehand -- and then when it's 7pm the night before, and push comes to shove, my brain goes into full onslaught procrastination mode.
My friends who have housecleaners come in weekly all do the "dash around madly straightening" thing before they arrive -- after all, they want the cleaners to focus on the big stuff, not the tasks that are easy to do -- but otherwise they'd have to spend time doing the straightening to be able to get to the big stuff. You get more for your money by taking care of the easy stuff first. Plus, there is *always* the fear that these strangers are going to come in and be thinking utterly horrid things about you -- I really think this is more of a woman thing, though.
Kat, you'd be quite impressed with how it all looks. The cats, of course, are not pleased -- they were locked in the bathroom all morning while loud noises were going on, and then they get out to slightly damp carpets and different smells.

Typical! I don't get to see Mikey's sparkly clean house! Instead I get to clean up...a student house
Gosh that's a truly enormous spliff on TV! Sorry that was beside the point

Hey, if you'd *wanted* to be here when my mother gets here, you could have seen the sparkly clean house.
