Yes, probably. Maybe Canada was still relatively empty at the time, and America was 'full'?

Hallo B'Elana,
I am looking for a job as secretary or clerk for office communication.
Something in an office.

My thinking exactly! Too many immigrants going to America & they thought Canada would be less crowded(have more open spaces).

Office communication, Tina...a good area. Do you have experience in communications?

Good morning Darrell,
may I offer you a nice bittersweet choclat for a good start into the day?
Perhaps your grandparents choose Canada because they wanted a white Christmas?
I know my uncle went to Canada because he had heard there where good job opportunites - and it was right for him, because he got his first job there because they had machines from Germany (which this company got after World War II due to the reparations Germany had to make) and noone there could work on them, but it was the kind of machine my uncle had learned his job on.
So it was a good choice for him.
Have a nice day
I am going to make a break and relax a little on my sofa now and will be back later
Tina

Ah thank you Tina! How did you know I needed ?
Yes, many different immigrant stories I suppose. You may be right about the white Christmas though. Perhaps they thought a northern climate would be more like the home they were leaving.

Darrell,
what we call office communication in Germany is nothing else but another word for sort of secretarial jobs using modern technique.
Or something of that kind.
Actually I am trained to do all sorts of office jobs - but noone lets me show it
*and I only guessed you needed choclat :D *

jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Posted Jun 8, 2007
Good guess, then!
Yes, always a need for communication in a business, especially a larger one. Of course communication involves more today than it once did.
Hopefully someone will appreciate your training & you'll find a good job. Unfortunately this can take time.
But*sigh*I must be off to the , see you both later, ok!

Well - without communication we wouldn't be here, would we?
And the modern techniques enable us to so in real time - not like it was when I was young, when you waited for letters to arrive (and for some letters I was dying to receive them)

I guess that's the reason why there are hardly any letter boxes here anymore - they're no longer frequented.

matodemi Posted Jun 8, 2007
And that's a pity.
I love the modern ways of communication - but there is nothing better than a handwritten love letter
...or another handwritten letter, as long as it's privat and not just another bill.

I suppose I can say good morning since you'll read this when you wake up.(Tchibo anyone?)
I bought when I was out Tina, from two different Canadian chocolatiers - http://www.purdys.com & http://www.laurasecord.ca/en/default.asp (hmm, but I didn't see those "tall, dark & handsome" bars - I'll have to ask about and wath for those).

Good morning everyone,
B'Elana:
somehow you are right - what the hell do loveletters look like anyway? (it must be ages since I received the last one)
Darrell:
thank you for the coffee, just the thing I need right now

Good morning.
Btw, Tina, go to the <./>smileys</.> page to look how smikleys are done. There are a few shortcuts such as : - ) or : ) and : - D and ; - )or ; ) : - * and : - P(without the spaces I put now), but :D , :* or :P won't do here, you need the hyphen.

matodemi Posted Jun 9, 2007
Thank you for the tipp B'Elana,
I should print a list of the smileys, because whenever I write I forget to look beforehand what the shortcut for the smilies are
(and btw - is there a quick way to get to the front page, since I do not find a button to get there?)
What is the wheather in Frankfurt like?
and have nice cup of
(did it work - the smiley, took the forum code 2?)

What skin are you in then? The default skin when joining is brunel, which has a box with some smileys beneath the reply window, and a link to the <./>FrontPage</.> at the top of the left-hand side bar. I don't know about the other skins, thozgh, I'd have to check that. What does it say in your URL (top menue bar)after the ...h2g2/ - bit?

matodemi Posted Jun 9, 2007
I use the GOO sking (?) (the blue one)
I will change to brunel (I thought there was a time when I could see the link, must have been when I tried out the different skins).
I'll take my second and then I will have a look
(and then I should acutally start on doing housework and do my shopping, since noone else will do it and things are getting from bad to worse and without shopping my children will starve - and they don't accept the excuse that I have been on an interesting website)

Yes, I thopught it had tpo be horrible goo. In the top left corner of the page, there's the h2g2 logo - clicking on it will take you to the Front Page. Clicking on the large green thingummy with the changing text will take you to Peer Review. That one took me ages to find out, because every time I looked for a link to Peer Review, it displayed the : 'On h2g2 You decide what goes into the Guide' text.
I'm lucky, I thought I wouldn't have any car today to do the shopping, so I had my eldest son do them yesterday afternoon. He passed his driving licence in February this year, and he has to get some driving practice, hasn't he?
How old are your children? My sons are 15 and 18.
