weirdo07, sorry it took so long for me to bring you the answer to your question. In order to personally greet someone when they enter your Personal Space, you would have to Edit your PS. You can do this by clicking the little ‘button’ in the upper right of your PS.

To prevent messing up your original PS, FIRST save a copy of the code to a separate document. THEN open up a new document and make a copy you can edit and paste into your edit screen. If things go terribly wrong, you can always paste the original code back into your PS, save it, and you’re safe once again.

It's a fairly easy process, though it will take some patience. It takes a little research and you have to wait for the update to take place. The best resource is at A1123354, which a Researcher named Unconformity submitted to the Edited Guide. It tells you, step-by-step, how to do utilize each of the following on your homepage:
• Fonts A1130211
• Formatting A1130301
• Smileys and Pictures A1130400
• Linking A1140832
• Tables A1131418
• Marquees A1139997
• Guestbooks A1146403

He first shows you The Basics of Guide Mark-up Language (GML, similar to HTML) and makes it simple. He provides easy examples you can readily copy and try out in your PS. Keep what you like; discard what doesn’t suit your tastes. He even included some more in-depth, fancy things you can do to make your PS come alive!

Let me go back to your original request. How to have the Greeting name the viewer of your Personal Space. Oddly enough, it’s called the “Viewer” tag. It is a preset command that identifies the viewer, then places his on-line name someplace on the page. In order to use the tag, be sure to include this in the ’BODY’ of your Personal Space entry.

Hello there,
!
Welcome to my little niche on the BBC's websites. Feel free to make yourself at home and browse my Personal Space at your leisure.

With a little adjustment, you can change where on your PS this is displayed. It depends on the ‘order’ in which you put things on your page. You can also change the font style and size of the lettering, as well as the color. Use your own phrasing of the greeting, the text on either side of the <’VIEWER/’> tag. Be sure to “close” each tag you open! When you start a tag, it’s usually in brackets like , and when you close it, it looks like . Notice how the alignment, bold, and font are “opened” and “closed” in the command lines above?

Take some time to experiment to see what works and what doesn’t. Looking forward to see what you do with it.
