Personal Space Workshop - Smileys and Pictures
Created | Updated Nov 28, 2003
You can make your space more colourful by adding smileys and pictures. This section of the Workshop demonstrates how to use them, and different ways they can be used.
Smileys
H2G2 has many smileys, a full listing of which can be found at the Smiley Page. To use, for example, the smiley in Guide ML, you would write it as the following...
<SMILEY TYPE="wow"/>
Pictures
You can't use your own pictures on h2g2 but there are plenty you can use in the h2g2 Picture Library. Next to the pictures is the code, to use the picture, all you need to do is copy the code onto your space. The picture will be aligned centrally, like this..
If you want to embed the picture into the left or right of the page, then follow the example.
Embed to Left | Embed to Center | Embed to Right |
<PICTURE EMBED="LEFT" BLOB="B1072983" ALT="A smiley going through several mood changes"/> | <PICTURE EMBED="CENTER" BLOB="B1072983" ALT="A smiley going through several mood changes"/> | <PICTURE EMBED="RIGHT" BLOB="B1072983" ALT="A smiley going through several mood changes"/> |
Size
It is possible to alter the size of the picture by adding WIDTH and HEIGHT to the tag..
For example, this picture is 50 pixels high and 50 pixels wide...
<PICTURE EMBED="CENTER" BLOB="B1072983" ALT="A smiley going through several mood changes" HEIGHT="50" WIDTH="50"/> |
And this picture is 150 pixels high and 200 pixels wide...
<PICTURE EMBED="CENTER" BLOB="B1072983" ALT="A smiley going through several mood changes" HEIGHT="150" WIDTH="200"/> |
Changing the Size of Emoticons
This is similar to changing the size of pictures in specifying width and height, though there is more text involved. Although it looks long, all you need to change is the name of the smiley you want to use, the height and width.
For example...
<PICTURE EMBED="center" BLOB="../../../h2g2/skins/Alabaster/images/Smilies/f_smiley.gif?" WIDTH="32" HEIGHT="32"/>Looks like...
If you wanted the smiley instead, but at the same height and width, you would write
<PICTURE EMBED="center" BLOB="../../../h2g2/skins/Alabaster/images/Smilies/f_ski.gif?" WIDTH="32" HEIGHT="32"/>Looking like
Digibox users may wish to state the actual size of smilies to help prevent loading problems. See Smilies - digibox friendly edition to find out more.
