Just for the record - briefly, as I'm naughtily posting from w*rk - I've been outside a few times today, gossiping with smokers, and not only have I not succumbed, I haven't even felt interested in cigarettes. I feel good! Virtuous, even!
Even better, I've resisted the temptation to replace smoke breaks with breaks... I'm not sure how I've managed that, but so far I have.

Fantastic Ivan!!! reward yourself somehow for showing amazing willpower. the worst bit is over now, not only have you passed the physical addiction part BUT you have conquered the "back to work" bit.
Well done mate!
Wish i could do likewise, if only for the money factor. I think the only thing that *may* motivate me is that this Beast is dying & NO way can i afford a new one...but if i didn't spend all that on fags, maybe i could...but i could only give up with "you lot" to help me & if i can't go online, i will be utterly miserable so i will smoke more! Vicious bloody circle innit!

Terri, that is bad news about the Beast. Is there no hope for it?

Hi Ivan.
I honestly doubt it, the thing is 5 years old & an el-cheapo type, it's probably done well to keep going as long as it has. Any who sees it just; no way would anyone consider it worth fixing!
So basically it's a new one ,which i could get for a "bargain" price of about 300$....but just can't do or accept the fact that i've had lots of fun & met lots of folks through it, but "those days are over"
Anyway, i shall keep going with it as long as possible; i might even get to find the yellow screen restful if i stare at it long enough!

Geography is a problem. My employer replaces our entire network once every couple of years; there's nothing wrong with the old PCs and they get sold off cheap. However, the cost of shipping one to France would be scary. Just blame geography.
(Besides, they'd need some sort of power-converter thingy.)

All my systems are more then five years old, only the keyboard and mouse are recently bought new . "

Well done, Ivan - keep up the good work!
Terri,
Are you sure that Yellow Screen isn't just your monitor? I have an old monitor here that still works fine but unfortunately it would cost more to send to you than it's probably worth.

Hi, Ivan,
Well done
I will save five stars till you are "cured" I can't tell you how pleased I am that you have got this far. Having seen what the did to my other half, and my Dad, I am always so pleased when someone else kicks the habit. Please try and keep it up.
and Terri, I do hope you can find the strength to give it up. The extra money available is amazing, and the boost to health has to be seen to be believed. I am happy to anyone willing to give it a go
I keep hopiing that our Govt. will have the courage to follow Ireland with a full non-smoking ban, but courage is not something this lot are known for
The current half measures are simply going to cause no end of arguments. At least if a full ban is in place everyone knows where they are, and can choose where they , , etc. etc. Any drop in trade will soon recover.
Anyway, over.... Ivan.......hope we won't need and that you earn some more s soon
Take care,
Websailor

Hi all.yellow peril Terri here!
Well done Ivan for the continued good work!
As for this beast, yes, it *may* just be the monitor...but as you say, plenty of people may have spare monitors or even computers but the cost of getting them here makes it pretty impossible. It's a shame, 'cos i know there are various schemes to make "older" computers available to all sorts of needy people...but they usually fail for just the geographical thing. No way round it, unless anyone happens to be contemplating a trip to South West France! i will happily put you up & show you around, bring the old beastie with you!
(smileys in this colour are !)

Ami - cheers! I'm not sure who's still down in the cellar, but you won't be alone...
Day 14 without tobacco is now almost past the danger zone - that is, the w*rk zone. It has been a bit harder than yesterday, owing to a meeting in a part of town that I dislike, and the desire for a cigarette as soon as I got there, but I did resist.
I'd ask the brigade here for their opinions of yellow monitors, but they're all out of the office today. I'll try to pin them down next week.

I've got myself a treat - the best thing in the world, as far as I'm concerned - truly fresh wholemeal bread, straight from the bakery, with butter.
Day 15! I'm already into my Top 10 Quitting Attempts...
