Thanks Ami.
By the way, if anyone's baffled by the in my last post, especially non-native speakers of English... pony = horse = nag (in slang, or possibly dialect).

Hi, Ivan,
Keep it up. Like the I will for England I am afraid. I have had three close encounters with the victims of smoking and their resulting diseases. You don't want it at any price - especially your life
Save the (and the rest!!!) and buy yourself something really - every week if necessary, but give it up
'Nuf said. Take care, keep warm and get better soon.

That's a good incentive, Websailor. When I quit smoking last year I found I was saving enough money to buy myself a book every week - and I did. And so every week I felt so pleased with myself for not smoking AND I got a prezzy for my efforts.
What could you buy yourself every week, Ivan, with the money you are saving?

Friends who've quit found to be very effective and the best thing is you can eat Hootoo without having to worry about calories

might help, when I'm feeling a bit better. I find it helps with all sorts of things.
As for saving money and getting a weekly prize... well, I'll start with the practical side of things. A fortnight without tobacco will get me a new pair of shoes, and another week and a half will get me new boat-shoes for summer use. That'll take me through to mid-December, and then I'll find some new goals.
I'm feeling a lot better today - breathing easily, with only the odd bit of pain. Those pills are marvellous things.

The money I save from not buying cigarettes has enabled Hubby and myself to attend a number of Meets in the UK and paid for our Board too!

My tobacco savings wouldn't be enough to cover a trip to a UK meet... I don't think anybody could smoke *that* much.

I am aware most of you friends are from the other continents... I meant to say.. I live in the UK.. and that is how I can afford to attend the Meets!..

Glad you are feeling a bit better Ivan. Take it easy, especially with the
The practical things are a good idea, but something that really cheers you up will help too.
Stick with it.

I've also decided - if I stay off the cigarettes until January, I will reward myself with Broadband. I'm getting a bit tired of this dial-up thing.
Now, *there's* an incentive.

Ivan,
Oh, most definitely I use my computer and the things I want to go with it as an incentive to do lots of things, including the housework (like lightening!!) etc.
You're up early for a poorly person Hope that means you are feeling much better.
Keep it up. I expect the craving will come back when you are feeling well again, so beware
Your life expectancy and quality of life improves the minute you stop and continues to improve.

Websailor, in my timezone it's 7:20pm. I'll be off to bed soon - absurdly early, but appropriate for a diseased person (as my sister calls me at times like this, with a curl of the lip ).

You can't buy something practical like shoes (unless they are pretty, shiny, get-your-galdrags-on shoes) you need to spend it on something silly that's purely for pleasure. Smoking is about the most impractical thing you can do with your money so even buying something like a trampoline (though that's probably not a good buy in your condition... ) is a better waste of money. Or I am just displaying my youth here?
Glad to hear you're feeling better

Honestly Iago! Us *old folk* actually get much pleasure from a new pair of practical and useful shoes! (sorry, Ivan, not calling you old, I know you're way younger than me, just agreeing with you on the shoe thing).
Anyhow, by now you are over the purely physical addiction bit but, as Websailor says, you'll probably get cravings once you are feeling better. But never fear, we will be here to you constantly! I mean, what are friends for?

Iago, think of them not as shoes but as nice shiny new Doc Martens. Does that help? They look nice and subversive with my business clothes. (If I was doing something really practical, I'd be using the savings to pay off my dentist.)
As for the smoking thing - every is appreciated. I think I'm over the worst of the cold-turkey mood swings now; I couldn't have done this if I was at w*rk and surrounded by RL people; I'd have hit someone by now. By the time I get back to w*rk I should be placid about it all.
Key: Complain about this post
