Oh but you have to wear trousers under your skirt (or is that just a NZ thing?)
In case I'm offline for a while...
frenchbean Posted Nov 22, 2004
Trousers under skirts happens in UK too It's perfectly normal in S-E Asia of course.
Docs are wonderful shoes, but no longer made in England They sold out and get them made in China, I think it is.
I had a pair of 20-hole boots for years And still have a pair of brown brogues. They make some Docs with heels Oh, and they're pink, or spotty, or have hearts on them
Sounds like you're on the up, Ivan

Well, not exactly boots eventually, more like nice high shoes... but I counteredmeasured the fact I got stylish shoes by going to the cheap music store and getting some nice CDs.
And I found out that walking through the mall is much less annoying when accompanied by The Essential Clash on the headphones.

Day 18!
I think I'll keep the tiresome tally of days going until I've reached a calendar month's worth. It gives me something to aim for.
My new Docs *indicates feet with new shoes in appropriate positions* have 'Made in England' stamped in them. There are a few other mock-Docs available, but I feel happier with the genuine article. I'd hate to thing that production had moved entirely offshore - if it has, I guess I've been sold old stock. Never mind, they still serve the purpose of convenient toe storage and sock concealment.
Lady P - you've just given me an idea for lunchtime shopping. There's no Clash in my CD collection... maybe I should fix this.

YO! Ivan goes ballistic with nicotine free brain & starts wearing docs & sarongs to work, bosses beg him to start smoking again.....
Cor, all these years the smoke haze has been damping down his real personality!

I've been wearing Docs to the office for years... Comfortable and practical footwear, and also a bit subversive. When I was on the counter at the welfare office, it helped to look a bit subversive sometimes; it calmed down some of the more violent anti-'system' punters.
I can't say I've ever worn a sarong - in the office or elsewhere - and I don't think anyone would thank me if I did.

Never worn a sarong I suppose it's not really a guy thing.
There was this wonderful documentary recently looking at some 70s NZ history and they were talking about Bob Moody, who was a lawyer? and something like the head of the Police Association. He used to go to work in a Kaftan. Just brilliant. He loved challenging people's assumptions I think.
I always wanted turquoise Docs, and you couldn't get them here

Ooh, do get some Clash Ivan! Then you can walk about in your Docs listening to it and feel subversive! I only got the 'Essential' CD, figured I should get something like that because I hardly knew anything other than the obvious stuff...
But listening to The Magical Mystery Tour right now, which just makes me smile every time.

I've never worn a kilt, either. I can't say the idea appeals...
I did look at the Clash CDs but I got distracted by something or other and wandered off elsewhere. Maybe I'll get the Essential Clash next payday.

Magical Mystery Tour - isn't that The Beatles?
I wore a kilt for 5 years at High School. You need the right climate for them though.

Yeah, it is. Really cute, with some incredibly weird bits (like I Am the Walrus) that make you think 'what were they on?'

Oh, I am the Walrus!
Is Magical Mystery Tour an album name, or just the single name?
My fav. is Abbey Road.

That's the album name - though I don't know, it might have been a single originally... *prepares self for the 'oh, young people today, what do they know?' looks *

I'm just relieved that there are young 'uns listening to The Beatles
There was a song called Magical Mystery Tour (I'd type out some lyrics but I'm not sure how to spell that starting bit). Don't know if it was released as a single (it's before my time too).

for the slightly anti-system Ivan. You keep on ever-so-subtly bringing down the system
Congratulations mate
