Well the sentiments were right (see above) just wrong person. That settles it - off to the opticians for an eye test next week and new glasses ....Actually I mean that. Next thing on my long list ot "to dos".

Ivan, I wish you all the best. It isn't much fun at the best of times, but to get a second bout is a bit rough.

Pneumonia is (literally) a pain, but these days with antibiotics & stuff, it's not like it used to be, but you still need to rest & keep warm.

i'd give you a but it would probably hurt your ribs, so instead!

Thanks everyone, for everything. I will indeed take good care of myself. As for this being 'only pneumonia' - it's not that I'm taking it lightly, but compared to lung cancer, collapsed lung, embolism, mesothelioma, or the various other things they tested me for - well, it's only pneumonia, you know. *phew*

Do whatever the told you to do...and bevery very careful and cautious to the nice side of paranoia...it's always better to act like a hypochondriac, you've got a better chance of healing quicker !

Hate to be a nag but my nan has just gone into hospital with pneumonia for I think the 6th time. Every single time she's gone in the doctors have told her to stop smoking and that if she'd have stopped smoking the first time she wouldn't be anything like as bad as she currently is. Also she'd have a life expectancy of a couple of decades rather than the handful of months she's now been given. Believe me you don't want to end up like my nan.

Iago, feel free to nag. I haven't had a cigarette for some days now, and I intend to make that a permanent situation. The occasional nag might help me to stick with it. (We need a smiley - the whole business could be handled in shorthand that way.)

For the record, the extensive testing etc wasn't directly related to smoking; it was more about my own idiosyncratic pathology and a very odd medical history.
