The Holistic Method

When in doubt, I find the Holistic Driving method an ideal means to getting somewhere. Derived from Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, it just seems to work for me. If you get lost, following the car (or the pedestrian, or cyclist) in front. I mean, don't creep them out and use logic as well as the random play of chance. I haven't had a bad experience with the method yet, always ending up either where I intended to go, or (better still) somewhere a darn sight more interesting. Try it... you might like it.

All Blogged Up

Seems so long since I last gave any consideration to the Journal here. I seem to have become deluged with blogs. I have a personal one, a Doctor Who one, one about the wildlife in my back garden, one about my freelance writing for the PARANOIA roleplaying game... It all takes time and effort, so keeping this Journal uptodate as well takes a back seat.

Anyway, I'm here now. I have entries to sub, a Flea Market entry on Ringu to consider and a Update of the PARANOIA roleplaying game to write. Nothing like piling up on the To Do list to keep your creative juices flowing in the right direction.

Tranquil

The birds are singing. Loudly. Pleasantly. I have to say that it really is lovely to hear, because birds in the UK are being threatening by the constant changes set in motion by the human population.

Rural birds are getting mighty confused by our shift in planting habits and advanced farming techniques. Meanwhile, urban birds seem to spend their time scavenging for food and territory.

I work on a site that is situated right next to a park, and the birds are making the most of the entertaining and rewarding habitat. I want to appreciate this now as much as possible, because in 10 years time things might be very different.

Hot and Sticky II

Almost a year on - and I'm sitting in the office above the old office feeling uncomfortable and sticky and sweaty. It isn't a sensation that's condusive to getting work done. What's more, I've taken medication for my hayfever and mild sinus infection - and they're combining to give me an upset stomach and a drowsy head. I keep feeling my eyes closing involuntarily... ARGH! Get me out of here!

Earthquakes in Manchester

There was another earthquake this morning at 9.27am... and it felt odd to be in the office and suddenly feel the furniture moving around you. It was like someone throwing a stone into a pond and the ripples spreading steadily outwards, rolling out in an unstoppable wave.

There was a dull, low-level grumbling noise like a train passing and my monitor wobbled, then I felt the ripple pass under my feet and chair. It literally felt like the movie 'Tremors', as it felt like something had crawled - at speed - under the carpet beneath my chair and desk. It was the strangest experience - as one of my colleagues said, it was really shaky.

I would really like to know why we're getting so many little shocks over such a short period of time.
