The way your login works is this:

1. You type in your username and password.
2. An ID verification process takes them and checks that they are correct.
3. It returns an authorised access status.
4. A second process takes your authorisation, contacts the h2g2 database, then forgets why it went up there in the first place.

That's like walking into another room, and by the time you get there, you've forgotten why you went.

I definitely think we're keeping the site going by just being ourselves. Thank goodness for that! It would be harder to try to be someone else.

A famed comedian, who's been repeatedly accused of sexual assault (with the drugs in the drinks and the thing...) had a good explanation of what happens to that thought that tells you to get up and go to another room and you forget why.

He said the thought goes away and hides... in your bottom. He knows this because when you go back and sit down, you instantly remember what it was you went to do or get. He suggested when you're standing there wondering why you got up and came there, to make a fist... make a fist and press it against your bottom to push that thought back up to your head.

There appears to be some truth in that. Once you've made up your mind to go do stuff, your mind does not occupy itself with that decision any longer. Hence you forget.

You have got to go back to the surroundings where the idea first entered your mind in order to recreate the necessary pattern of thinking.

Mind you not all of us think with their a$$es ...
