Baron Grim

Here, it has lost its more general meaning.

I've used a proper outhouse, when I was younger. It was at my grandparents' farm in West-bygod-Virginia. It can't remember if it had a crescent moon in the door, I don't think it did. But I seem to remember it did have a few dried corn cobs in the corner... just in case. smiley - yikes

What I know it had was about a million daddy-longlegs clustered in the dark corners. smiley - spider

I have a daddy longlegs family in my bathroom. I don't know what attracts them to such places, but I don't mind them as long as they don't build webs around my refrigerator too smiley - sadface.

Re post 500:

"An outhouse can simply be a small outlying building separate from the main house... " [paulh]

Just the other day it was discussed on my radio why we say "into the living room" but "out in the kitchen" (in Danish at least).
Clue: Back in the olden days the food was cooked in an - you guessed it - outhouse.
One of the reason being to keep the living room, bedrooms, furniture etc. out of harms way of the open fire used in a kitchen smiley - geek
