for the link Bel, I had no idea about this MOT thing. I'm still reading through the backlog (I can see 96 posts) and so many good points to think about.
I ed my socks off when I noticed that comment 42 on that blog has been removed because it broke the house rules- very appropriate

Posted. I can't understand why there is this presumtion on the part of the BBC that beacuse hootoo is different from the rest of their online content this is a problem. Surely it is one of its strengths?
I just wish Seetha would post some feedback. Some bbc bloggers do *get* the principle of a two-way conversation, but very many seem to see it more as a bill board or (worse) mission statement, issued to the awaiting populace

Rockhound.
I don't usually read blogs, let alone post to them, but somebody posted a link to a Nick Reynolds blog elsewhere, and he replies a lot, so I agree, it's weird that Seetha doesn't.

That Nick Reynolds is playing 'Devil's Advocate' with Hootoo
Then he moderates the replies that HE deems to be offtopic
I haven't posted to Seetha's blog, there are many more eloquent than I in there

am I correct in saying a MOT is a road worthyness test on the information superhighway?
Why the Motor Vehicle metaphor?

It is an interesting aside that this discussion of a MOT was started by our minister of abbrev.

We use MOT for any test to see if something is fit for purpose now. We even talk about going to the doctor for an MOT. It's generally used with a slight smile as we know we aren't cars, really.
There is a big sense of "pass" or "fail" with it. A fail is normally expensive (inasmuch as you will now have to start spending money on getting it roadworthy) and really not welcome.

Oh, I didn't exactly start it, I merely posted the link as a pointer for those who might have missed it otherwise.

Vestie, we have TÜV for many things here, too. It's just an abbreviation for 'Technischer Überwachungsverein' (Technical Surveillance Club), but it's usually associated with cars. Like you, we jokingly use it when going to the 's, too.
Key: Complain about this post
