Some time ago it was explained to those of us outside the UK that the term MOT was not limited to automotive inspection.
I just noted in a local paper that in the US cities also go under review using different initials.
Here is what I read:
To: Citizens of the City of Lansing
From: Virg Bernero, Mayor
PURPOSE: NOTIFICATION OF AVAILABITY OF THE CONSOLIDATED ANNUAL PERFORMANCE AND EVALUATION REPORT (CAPER) July 1, 2008 to June 30,2009

The city of Lansing is preparing its Consolidated Annual Performance Report (CAPER) pursuant to Federal Community Development Program rules. Before submitting the CAPER to HUD for approval the City must, after appropriate public notice make the report available to the public for examination and comment for a period of 18 days. The comment period is September 2nd to September 21st,2009.

What that basically means is the US Federal Government will continue to provide block grants (of money) to the City through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) but only if they submit an inspection report.


This inspection report is not publicized and only because I was reading the Public Notices (that they are required by law to print) did I happen to see it.

Any more news about what happend with the h2g2 MOT?

Considering the amount of effort people put into writing on the previous blog it would be nice to actually get some proper feedback.

It would be easier to find the results of the MOT if the search function worked for conversations.
All I could find on short notice was an announcement back in August that said in part:
We would like to stress at this point that this temporary shortage is not a sign of things to come – the MOT process went even better than we could have expected and the h2g2 redesign process is well underway.

I clicked on the 'h2g2' keyword on the h2g2 update blog entry and that is the last h2g2 blog entry...time for an up-date I think..

Indeed. One thing I notice about it is, at the end,

"Ed's note: Nick Reynolds is away on holiday at the moment but will be back in a week or so and will let us know more about future plans for h2g2. (PM)"

Yet there doesn't seem to have been any more that I'm aware of since 20 August.

That note was there right from the beginning (20 August) and should have been removed when Nick posted there on 3 September.

The eds are investigating (I posted to technical Feedback the other day. I was lucky last night, it was its normal speed then, so I managed to get quite a lot done.

Still, having to wait that long for a single page to load is making me jittery.
