I can't say that aloud, we have an alabaster fan in here, and I've already upset the Firefox and Mac users.

Have a look at my PS, then you'll see which skin the Mac user was in.

I read some reviews of Chrome today - some good, some indifferent, some bad. One of them, however, mentioned that MS had released IE8 last week.

Has anyone tried this?

Not yet. I thought IE 7 was still quite new?

I think I'll wait until IE8 starts to work properly. All MS products start out by not working really well in the beginning.

But the reference seems to have been edited out now.

Hi Bel, pheloxi!smiley - smiley

I'm using Chrome right now, after some initial trouble downloading. But no problems since...other than a bit of sluggishness. It works *snaps fingers*most of the time but now'n'then it takes longer than usual. But, pretty smooth sailing(so to speak)so far!smiley - ok

jaz'd, I hope you've ticked the 'ask me where to store data' box, or else you risk to get trojans and viruses onto your PC via Chrome.

Oh, and btw, you still allow google to translate, publish, distribute and do whatever they want where they want with everything you post via their browser. It's only that the copyright remains with you now.

As I understand it, Google Chrome does not download and run files without you telling it to do so. The option to download *and* execute is a one-click button at the bottom of the page, not a popup to download followed by an option to execute as you get in other browsers. It's easy to tell it to download and run files by mistake, simple as that.

If you run Windows, WE will catch most types of files anyway and let you know they are trying to run, and so will any decent antivirus software. The one it won't stop is a JAR file, which will be executed.

It's the two small problems of the 'one click to download and execute' button and the way Windows Explorer handles JAR files that make the security vulnerability, not one ridiculous gaping hole in Chrome.

I think the speed with which rumours travel on the Internet and the complex language that is used to explain such problems keeps everyone far more scared than they really should be.

Sorry, I missed the second page of backlog:

'Oh, and btw, you still allow google to translate, publish, distribute and do whatever they want where they want with everything you post via their browser. It's only that the copyright remains with you now.'

That isn't the case. The limited license section has been removed; the relevant section was part of 11.1:

'By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.'

That section has been removed from the license and applies retroactively.

The ToS now reinforces the point:

'Google acknowledges and agrees that it obtains no right, title or interest from you (or your licensors) under these Terms in or to any Content that you submit, post, transmit or display on, or through, the Services, including any intellectual property rights that subsist in that Content (whether those rights happen to be registered or not, and wherever in the world those rights may exist).'

I should also add that I have no problem with any browser translating, publishing or distributing my webpages, because that's what they're designed to do smiley - smiley
